Most of our rules are common knowledge, but consider this a refresher. So, welcome you to Buffalo Creek Bay! When registering please ensure that you do so with the first and last name of your character with proper capitalization. Example: Sarah Smith not sarah smith or SARAH SMITH. When you sign up for the cbox you DO NOT have to sign up with the name of your character. It can be anything you want. As this is an Invisionfree forum, you do not have the ability to change your own display name, so please get it right the first time. If you don't, we won't shoot you or anything. Just PM one of the admin accounts and we'll fix it as soon as humanly possible. When applying, please be sure to fill out all the required portions of the application... which is everything, in case you were wondering. Post it in the appropriate section [Registering Profiles] and you'll be good to go. Please give us at least a day to look it over before freaking out about being accepted. We will definitely get to you because we love new people to rp with, seriously. Now here at Buffalo Creek we have what you call a 'Council of Senior Writers'. It is a group made up of long term ACTIVE members and in order to have your character's application accepted at least half of the members must approve. So please be sure to re-read over your application to correct any grammar errors. We understand that errors can be made and as long as there is not a bunch of them made all at the same time. Now there are spots opened on this council and the admins might consider someone as long as they are active and have been for no less than six months. (Send a PM to Seph if you are interested.) --As of January 17th, 2012 it is now required to post a role playing sample in your application. If we believe you are not yet ready for the skill level required we will deny your application. You can have as many characters as you like BUT you cannot make a second character until you have been with us for a month and have been active. That way we don't get a build up of inactive characters when a member decides to disappear. Now for every two females you create, you must make a male character to go with them. If you absolutely suck at men and have a great new female to introduce, PM an admin. We can make exceptions. We only have this restriction to try to even out the playing field a little bit since most sites get overrun with women pretty quickly and all. Also, we HATE Mary-Sue's, so please just don't do it. You know better. Sam West (or his dorky brother John) is not automatically going to fall in love with you. You're not going to be best friends with Jo just because your dad was a cowboy too. Make your character diverse and interesting and we'll totally love you a lot more for it. Be sure to post under Registering Profiles and your first profile must be accepted before you start role playing. If it is not completed within two weeks(unless you PM an admin giving us a reason why not) then it will be archived. You may PM an admin to have it moved back out when you're ready to finish it. Also when your ready to make another character you can go ahead and post in the Character Profiles forum. Acceptance is no longer needed however if we notice you don't finish the profile after a week of the posting date then we'll move it back to the Registering Profiles. In order to register with Invisionfree you must be of thirteen years of age or older as stated here: http://www.invisionfree.com/privacy/ BUT we ask, specifically for this site, you be at least fifteen years of age. We absolutely understand that you have a life outside the rp world. That's cool because we definitely do too. That being said, we do expect you to actually show up every once in a while because what's the point in joining a site if you're just going to disappear. We ask that you pop in at least twice a week if possible, even if it's just to post in the chat or games forum. We understand what it's like to have a muse that's MIA, but that cannot be a regular excuse. If your planning on going on vacation or are planning on leaving the site for good please post in the ‘Out of Character’ forum and let us know. It’s much more appreciated instead of disappearing on us. There will be activity checks when the Admins deem it necessary and if you do not post within the given time all your characters and threads will be archived and their job positions will be re-opened. Now in-between activity checks if you do not sign in within 60 days all your characters and threads will be archived and their job positions will be re-opened. If you do not sign in within 90 days your account will be deleted. We are an intermediate to advanced site and in those regards we ask that our members post something of substance. We've all been newbies at one point in time and while we do accept people who don't have a lot of experience, we ask that if you're one of them, you do your very best to keep up. If you're having any trouble, please pm an admin. We're super friendly and would absolutely love to help you get into the swing of things. We also frown at powerplaying / godmodding. In other words; you do not control every single character on this board. The whole point of rping is interacting with other people! So do not make your characters all knowing of everything. As for godmodding; just don't do it, okay? If you're unsure as to what it is; basically, it's when you determine the actions of another character(and their horses). You can say that there was a well aimed slap, but never say your character actually hit the other character. It is up to them to decide whether their character is involved. We don't have a word count or anything silly like that because, really, who likes having such exacting requirements? It's just added stress and we think it's a little ridiculous since this is supposed to be fun, not a second (or third!) job. We do ask that you post at least three or four substantial paragraphs. This isn't second grade, so we shouldn't have to remind you how many sentences tend to be in those. We do like pretty posts and encourage coding, pictures, and all that fun stuff. If you’d like a signature, avatar or posting table made for you please take a look in the ‘Out of Character’ forum. We're all about good spelling and grammar, so please keep that in mind when you're typing up your post. Spell checkers are awesome (and free) so please use them. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes, though, and that's totally fine by us. The absolute most important thing to keep in mind about all of this is that we are completely against chat speak. You can use it in the OCC boards, but please not anywhere else. Your first character must be accepted by an Admin before you can start posting. After that if you decide to make a second or third character you can post their profile right into the correct sub-forum under 'Character's Profiles'. You will no longer need to wait for an approval of the profile. NPC stands for Non-Playable Character. They are the family members or friends related/linked to your character. In order for you to add these characters into your replies post them under the 'NPC Profiles' thread located in the 'Character's Profile's section. There is a profile template there specifically for your NPCs so please be sure to use it. Now instead of making each individual NPC their own thread we would like you to put all NPC's related to one character in a thread with one another. You should put in the topic title: Jame's NPCs We do require that you have at least an avatar to represent your character on the board. Avatars may not be bigger than 150x200 and that's the size that we would like to encourage you to use. 100x100 is all right to make of course. Signatures are not necessary if you don't really want one, but who wouldn't? As long as they don't stretch the board and contain no nudity then they are quite all right with us. If you're not especially skilled with the Photoshop, please post in the requests threads. If there doesn't happen to be an open 'shop' at the moment, we would suggest checking out a place like Caution. The people there are kind of awesome and you're guaranteed to find someone willing to make you a set. Now, on to the face claims. This part is insanely important. They have to be real celebrities. We don't do cartoon characters, anime peeps, or Myspace kids. As far as celebs go, we're not going to tell you who you can and can't use. We will HINT as to who might not be a good idea, but we won't deny your application just because we don't like your character's representative. This site is definitely in possession of a mature rating, but please try to keep it at a PG-13 level in the visible threads. Otherwise put a [M] in the topic title so an Admin can move it to the mature thread, which is password protected. We will give out the password to members only who have either been around for a while or those who have a thread that needs to be moved into the forum. You also must be 18 years old or older to view the mature board. Now when we say this board is a PG-13 Rating, this is what we mean: Mild profanities are okay within reason, but sexual ones - like the “F” word – would be considered inappropriate. At the very least, we ask that you use * for the rest of such words. Also – Sexual innuendo and heavy kissing or petting, ect., “fading to black” or having the characters “shut the door behind them” is allowed, because it does not go into graphic detail. However! If they start to undress or if the they are get to talking of very sexually explicit material, then it has surpassed that "13" rating and would need to be moved. The PG-13 Rating also applies to the Cbox, as anyone passing by can read it, so we ask that all our members follow these rules even when interacting with others through the Chat box. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you have posted your character's profile and it has been accepted it will be required** of you to sign your name on a list stating you have read and understand these rules.
