GUIDELINES

1. Post a character audition using the Audition Template. This can be an old post or new sample, or it can be an Audition Challenge.

2. After that's approved by 2 admin, post a profile using the Profile Template.

3. Audition Challenges are completely optional, and are issued specifically when an admin wants to see more from an application. But everyone can post prompts in the Prompt Thread for fun!

Character acceptance will be determined by audition. Basically, if two out of the eight admin say yes, you're kosher. If two say no, thanks but no thanks, but you're welcome to try again!

After your audition is accepted, please refer to the Profile Template for the second half of the character acceptance process. Two more admin must approve the profile, so before then you are not quite accepted.

Minimum of 200 words, but don't think this is based on word count. I don't care how you get the character across, just get the character across. And don't steal, either; we'll be checking.

Accepted auditions reserve the character for up to a week. But once your week is up, the character is up for grabs again and will be reserved on the next audition unless you post a profile ahead of them.

Prompt Challenges: These are totally optional! If you want an admin or member to give you a prompt, post that you want an Audition Challenge. Otherwise, it's completely legitimate to write up something yourself or copy and paste a roleplay sample from another site (as long as it really is yours and it's for the character you're applying for). Please note that these do not act as reservations of any kind, and you still have to get the audition approved in order to have the character reserved for one week.

Post your audition in a separate thread here in the Workplace.

CANONS:
DON'T recreate a scene from the game/movie. Granted, you can do beautiful stuff with that. But we want to see new examples of characterization.

Use other canons wisely. The spotlight should be on YOUR character.

Be awesome and we won't ask for a history or personality in the final profile.

Be borderline (and/or need to try a few times to get the character) and you will have to provide a history and/or personality to ensure that you know the character. Additionally or in lieu of that, a staff member may want to roleplay out a scene with you or challenge you to put the character in a scenario of their choosing.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS/OTHER CANONS:
You will have to provide a full history and personality in your final profile regardless of awesomeness. Histories can also be bullet pointed for Other Canons - Original Characters still require full histories. Be prepared for the staff to ask for a few more edits if you want a very overpowered or very Mary-Sue-ish character, because the staff really, really hates Mary-Sues. We get hives from them.

Use a canon in the audition if you need it, but be smart about it and don't let them steal the show. If you want Zexion to show up and glub all over your character, you won't get accepted, I mean really. But having them spot a major canon briefly, encountering the White Rabbit for a moment, or any other believable (and minor) character interaction is fine.

If you're borderline and we're not sure, the staff may want to roleplay out a scene with the character or challenge you to put the character in a scenario of their choosing.

Audition Contests:
If multiple people are auditioning for the same character at the same time, the following rules apply:
  • Anyone can contest anyone else for a character up until the time that the initial audition sample has been 2/2 approved.
  • Once a challenger has announced their intention to contest the initial applicant, they have 5 days to post their own audition sample.
  • There can be any number of applicants for the same character within these 5 days.
  • Applicants engaged in an audition contest may not ask for admin challenges.
  • An applicant may request for an extension if circumstances outside their control prevent them from posting their audition on time, but they may only ask for one extension, and it can be no longer than 3 days.
  • Once all of the contesting auditions are up, the staff will choose from amongst them based on the usual criteria of characterization first, then grammar, etc. Only one audition will be accepted, but it is possible that all of them may be denied.
  • In the case of multiple contesting auditions, an audition requires 4 admin approvals to be accepted.
  • Once an audition is accepted, that player may post a profile as normal, which will be 2/2 judged as normal. Everyone else can go home.
  • If an applicant has failed to post their audition after an extension has been given, the original audition will be judged as a normal audition, and the challenger will be prohibited from applying for that character unless the original audition is denied.

For any questions or concerns regarding this process, please use the Feedback forum or just ask/PM a staff member.

Character Name: (As an OC try not to pick a canon name to spare confusion, or use a different surname [e.g. Zack bin Laden, Vincent van Gogh])

Headcanon: (For Canons; not a required section, but if you have any specific goals for the canon [such as eventually becoming a Keybearer], unusual takes on their personality [such as a justification for their actions not shown in canon or highlighting how you want to interpret the character], or just odd quirks that do not fit in the Personality Section, mention them here.  It's a way avoid confusion or questions of being Out of Character from other players.)
