Rosaline Lalonde - February 4, 2012 08:21 PM (GMT)
Character Name: Rosaline Lalonde (alpha!Rose)
Type: Homestuck Canon
Headcanon: While beta!Mom is a heavy drinker, alpha!Rose is a smoker.
Relevant info: Mother of Roxy Lalonde, author of The Complacency of the Learned.
Your nickname: Mya or Marshy.
Audition:
Salad fork, crab cracker, lobster pick. Rosaline traced her fingers over each one, the silver shining in the light of the chandelier. Everything was perfect for when her guest arrived. The ‘blind date’ probably wasn’t a good idea, but there was a first time for everything, and this would be Rosaline’s first ‘risky internet decision’ (not counting the time she decided to go onto the CotL thread on 4chan. Never again).
Her own house was large, and that came with its ups and downs. Yes, she had a lot of space for various items, such as a wizard statue and bronze vacuum- they both made her feel a sense of nostalgia, but she wasn’t sure quite why. On the other hand, the space was empty. Yes, she wasn’t alone in the house, but it felt as if she was. At times, it was as if her own daughter simply forgot about her existence. Yes, calling David once in a while was enough to satisfy the blonde now and again, but the sheer emptiness of the house would leak back into her mind soon after.
Which is why the blind date was so exciting.
It had been years since she held a dinner party. It was with David, and two others, more elderly than the young blondes. They had been wonderful friends, until they had to part. Rosaline heard that the elderly man had passed away since then, and that David had hit it big in Hollywood. Even Rosaline herself moved on from the immaturity of her youth. It was upsetting, to say the least- the whole group not being able to keep in contact, and it was upsetting to not know what happened to the elderly woman.
As Rosaline pushed one chair under the table to maintain the perfection she wished the night to radiate, a sharp ring echoed through the house.
She must be here, Rosaline figured, and recited a few tips to herself that she needed to remember, so as to not ruin this date, like the five before. Do not ask about their relationship with their father. Do not treat them like an experiment. Do not bring up the topic of wizards, David or the drunken daughter napping upstairs in her room.
The large door was opened to a red-headed girl, who was smiling. Rosaline exchanged her own tight-lipped smile, not expecting it to be a girl at all. No, not that it mattered much, she just assumed it would have been male. There was an exchange of welcomes, and more smiles, leading to Rosaline guiding the girl to the table she had set. Kairi – that was her name, if the blonde was correct.
The night went smoothly; jokes were exchanged and wine was drunk. Well, on the date’s end, at least, as Rosaline couldn’t bring herself to drink it. By the end, they were both tipsy, if not on wine, but food and merriment. It had been a while since Rosaline had felt this good. Since the dinner party between herself and her three friends, in fact.
As the night drew to a close, the two moved into the garden so as Rosaline could indulge in her vice. Foreign cigarettes, with a tangy smell, like spices. They had been contained in a blue box with gold foil, creating the woman that Rosaline pretended to be; mysterious, alluring and mature, unaffected by normal, day-to-day things. All of her stress was sent away by the fragile stream of smoke, as Kairi stood close by, a glass in hand. The date soon departed, and with another smile, Rosaline wished her a safe travel home. The guest left, bringing the fun of the evening with her, leaving Rosaline leaning on the closed door, once more staring into the emptiness.

Ahahaha, I didn't realize you got the Kairi date prompt until she showed up. Surprise I guess.

All in all I like how you handled it, mixing scenes with condensed narrative explanations for longer periods of time. Also keeping a date with Kairi serious. God knows I won't.

Approved 1/2

Ah, another victim of Kai's "HOT DATE WITH KAIRI" prompt.

Glad to see someone actually did it right for once.

Zing~!

"You make me out to be some kind of monster with a brain abnormality."

Nickname(s)/Alias: Mom, Rose, Snooty Whore

Character age: 35.

Loyalties: Pro-Timeline

Weapon: Knitting Needles

Abilities:
One-Way Telekinesis
Rosaline has the ability to talk at people via thoughts, but they can’t communicate back to her. This also means she cannot read minds. This only occurs when she can focus enough to commune.
Necromancy
Re-animates corpses using Grimdark Arts- the Horrorterrors possess them. Time is limited, but the span becomes longer as she levels up. Size of the creature and the numbers of corpses able to be animated at any one time are also limited with levels. Corpses are off-coloured (more black) with a grey aurora.
One human-sized creature or two to three smaller animals can be controlled under level one.
Ability to see the ‘Meanwhile’
Or, looking into the present. Able to look into her crystal ball to see the goings-on of somewhere else at the same moment.

Personality:
Stern and a party-pooper, Rosaline is the strict kind of mother who actually lets her kids do whatever the hell they want when she isn’t looking. Although she does try to keep Roxy in line, this often fails, and she gives up pretty quickly, believing that Roxy will sort herself out in due time. This is probably one of the reasons why the two aren’t that close.
Rosaline is also pretty lonely – imagine being stuck living alone with your daughter in the middle of nowhere, the only company being talking to yourself your (dead) cat, and a friend over the phone, once in a while.
Despite making herself look very mature, she also has a childish nature that is rarely seen. Most of the time, this is hidden by her strive to be grown-up and responsible, and to impress others, to keep up an appearance and the high expectations she gives herself.
She also likes to keep herself as mysterious as possible, keeping an air of classiness and wonder.

History:
Rosaline grew up pretty lonely, rather separated from not only her peers, but her parents, due to the fact she saw herself much smarter than them. She grew up quickly, easily learning basic skills. She began reading from a very young age, which is where her passion to write came from.
Speaking of her writing, an idea sparked when she entered her teens – an idea she would bend and develop until her late 20’s. Much of her time was spent on either schoolwork or working on her untitled book (that soon gained many, many titles), being seen as ‘the goth girl’ due to her newfound love of the occult.
Rosaline continued studying both Psychology and English in University, before graduating with a degree in both. However, she disappointed herself, as she could not find herself a job in either field, resorting to delivering pizzas. That is, until her book that she had worked on for years was finally published.
Shortly after it happened, while Complacency of the Learned was still barely known, Rosalie stumbled upon a child. She took her in, and gave her a name that seemed somewhat appropriate; Roxy. Rosaline believed that names play a big part in what the child grew up to be, and someone with that name seemed familiar.
The popularity of CotL took off, and Rosaline was able to keep her new family afloat without neither a job, nor a male figure. She is halfway through writing the sequel.

Player: Mya / Marshy.

Need a specification on necromancy since it's a level one skill! :U Since it looks pretty open to interpretation right now, but I'd be willing to say that one human-sized target could be controlled right now or two-three small, Shadow-sized creatures could be controlled.

Other than that, I am 0k with this. Just throw in that edit, and we'll be good!

I see the correct!

Therefore...

1/2 Approved!

Looks good to me after the correction!

But if you come near my daughter again I'll cut off your goddam hands.

Have fun!
