Printed below in this document lies the outline and recapitulation of all offenses and subsequent punishments as recognized by the Lady Jocelyn Tomeras and enforcers of the law within the province of Dederia. All citizens and inhabitants of Dederia will be held justly and equally in their adherence to these laws and shall be treated accordingly. The offenses below are divided into three categories based on severity: minor, which constitute disrespect but not direct harm to the Dederia community; major, which cause direct harm and imply an attitude of malice toward the community, and unforgivable; crimes which are in direct violation of the natural and unspoken laws of the community, sins against living furre which cannot be undone or redeemed. The following list is by no means restricted to its manifestation in this document but instead is subject to alteration in crime definition or punishment as seen fit by the Lady Jocelyn Tomeras or disciples of the law beneath her attentions.
Minor Crimes:
Disturbing the peace: Any outright or flagrant attempt to disrupt the proper functioning of Dederian society will be viewed as a disturbance to the peace. Similar violations include harassment be it verbal or physical, vandalism of public facilities, and any action taken with the intent of alienating, tormenting, or otherwise compromising a furre’s right to seek happiness and well-being in this community. Punishments will include service to the community in hours of labor or a minimum of one days imprisonment.
Disobedience: Blatant and disrespectful defiance of an authority’s request, when this request also abides by the laws stated within this document, may be viewed as a minor crime against the community. Members of the community are expected to give their full cooperation to figures of enforcement and legislation; withdrawal of this cooperation in a manner which compromises the welfare of the community of Dederia shall be judged as a minor offense against said community. Punishments herein will vary from one day’s imprisonment to community service or other categories at the discretion of those involved.
Major Crimes:
Theft: The Province of Dederia is focused on allowing freedom and security for all its inhabitants, and the right to property is included within these bountiful offerings. To knowingly burgle or otherwise abscond with another’s property for one’s own benefit is considered a high offense and a violation of the communal agreement to property and security. To indulge in theft or burglary from any visitor, citizen, or establishment of the Dederia Province is to openly disregard and disrespect the community and its inhabitants in a way that puts others welfare—be it material or otherwise—at risk. Punishments for the crime of theft will begin at a fine of 1 gold or 1 days imprisonment, though punishments may vary with the severity of the particular theft, the replacability of the stolen good, and for repeated offenses.
Assault: Any verbal physical assailment or aggression directed toward a fellow furre within the province of Dederia which may compromise either personal health, safety, or the perception of such faculties thereof will be classified as an assault on an individual, group, or establishment. An assault may include, but is not limited to, threatening gestures or words meant in earnest and not in jest, a failed attempt to bring harm to another furre by physical or mechanical means, brandishing any object perceivable as a weapon with intent to harm, or to harass in a manner considered more heinous or aggressive than a disturbance of the peace. If such an act is focused primarily on a specific individual or group of individuals, it is viewed as an assault and punishable by law starting at a fine of ten gold pieces of five days imprisonment, with upward variation based on severity and repeated instances of offense.
Battery: Causing injury to another furre by any violent and physical means is considered battery. While assault, as a charge, regards only the intent and attempt to do so, the action itself recieves further charges based on both the extent of personal injury, be it emotional or otherwise, and the intent with which such injury was brought upon the victim. The use of a weapon and the nature of the victim may incite further charges; battery of the elderly and extremely young is considered a more severe offense. A Dederian citizen is free to defend themselves if their life is threatened, but unnecessary brutality in self defense will be discouraged and classified as a case of battery. Alotted punishments consitute a minimum of 5 days imprisonment or ten gold pieces, with circumstances allowing for incremental increase due to weapons usage, extent of harm done and repeated instances of offense.
Destruction of property: As with theft, all Dederian citizens are assured security of health and property within the Province of Dederia. To deface, destroy, render useless, or alter an artifact of another furre's person without their given consent is considered a felony of destruction of property and punishable by law. Punishments may vary as to the severity of damage, artifacts affected, affluence of the victim and repeated instances of offense. A minimum fine of 5 gold will be charged, and the offender will be required to replace the given item. Fines and punishments may grow more severe depending on the nature and replacability of the item in question.
Impersonation of a staff or other authority figure: The leadership and stewards of Dederia Province commit themselves to promoting the security and welfare of the community. In order to ensure the wellbeing of its citizens, the community government must control the alotment and usage of certain privileges. To impersonate a staff member in order to make use of said priveleges is considered a felony and is punishable by a minimum of ten days imprisonment or a fine of forty gold pieces. Further punishments may be added as appropriate, depending on the nature and intent of impersonation, individual impersonated, and actions taken during impersonation.
Illegal Bounty Hunting or Mercenary Activity: While Dederia does strive to create a peaceful and non-violent community in which its citizens may live, the trade of bounty hunters and mercenaries is not strictly forbidden. Bounty hunters and mercenaries must, however, register their paperwork and cooperate with Dederian authorities to be given the right to practice their trades within the province. Illegal activity includes but is not limited to assasination, torture, engaging a target or opponent without having previously registered with the authorities, and withholding information from authorities regarding a crime or crime suspect. A fine of 50 gold will be paid by offending agents, and further punishments may be incurred as the offense is repeated or grows in severity.
Evasion of justice: To intentionally avoid taking responsibility for charged and proven crimes by any means violent or otherwise by evading authorities and the punishments alotted for a given crime is a further felony in the kingdom of Dederia. It is expected that all citizens of the community will take responsibility for their actions and display the sort of maturity and reason which is essential for the strength and wellbeing of the Dederian community by disputing issues of crime and punishment in a direct and honest manner with authorities and not with verbal or physical violence, attempts to flee, or desire to ignore one's personal debt to society due to crimes committed. Punishments may include community service, extension of imprisonment by a minimum of ten days, and a fine of gold pieces at a minimum of ten.
Unforgivable Crimes:
Murder: To end the life of another furre by any means violent or otherwise is considered a high offense in the Dederian community and is punishable by either death or banishment. The severity of punishment may also vary due to the situation (for example, killing in self defense) and the prospect of premeditation versus spontaneous acting. Attempting to end a furres life, even if this attempt failed, is considered an offene equal to the very act of killing and is punished with equal prejudice.
Rape or Attempted Rape: To force ones self sexually on an unwilling partner or to engage in sexual activity with a partner too young to be considered legally responsible for their own safety. This violation of another furre's free will is considered another high crime and is punishable at the province's discretion by banishment or death.
Kidnapping: To abduct another furre and hold them without their consent is a violation of their inherent rights and freedoms witin the Province of Dederia. Such blatant disregard for the wellbeing and natural freedom of any individual is strictly forbidden and viewed as a high crime by the justices of this province. As with other high crimes, punishments may range from banishment to death.
Cannibalism: To knowingly ingest the physical body of another furre, dead or alive, be it for personal, religious, or other motivations is considered a blatant offense against the natural laws of the community and is thus slated as a high crime. Perpetrators will be subject to banishment or death.
Slavery: To force another furre to do one's bidding against their own free will; to oppress upon the free nature of another furre ones own desires or needs by any means be they physical, mental, emotional, violent, or otherwise. The forced (or seemingly unforced) oppression of one furre by another is strictly forbidden, whether this is to the ends of labor or not, and the punishment for enslavement is that of any other high crime; banishment or death.
Treason: Any act, categorized as any of the preceding offenses, deemed so flagrant and damaging that it is seen to target the community in itself, or any other, unclassified betrayal of the Dederia province in word or action, is considered an act of treason against the community. Any such act committed with the intent of bringing about harm to the community or the structure in which it operates is further affect of treason and will be punished with banishment or death.
