Hey!
I thought maybe it's fair to post my comments on the various episodes here as well, besides vartanopia. So for those of you (the vast majority, I think) who are also members there... WARNING: THIS IS NOTHING NEW :P
This will mostly be about James, because I found this episode was really... about him
I think they've played the post-divorce thing quite well, maybe too quickly, because they need to "keep going" and TV times are not RL times but well. The thing is pretty simple: "Condom Private Ryan" was too superficial and not involving enough <_< , soccer mom was too deep and too involving :hugs: , Rebecca was the perfect balance, hence the perfect first post-divorce bed experience for James. A strong, smart woman who knows what she wants, makes the first move but in a less aggressive, more classy way than CPR, doesn't require any kind of emotional commitment but likes the idea of their lovemaking being "intense" . Honestly I would have loved to see the flirting at the aperitif bar ... and NO, I didn't bang my fist on my desk when I realized we wouldn't see any of the "intense lovemaking" :P I read above some comments about the not so passionate kiss in the hotel corridor. I found it passionate enough for two strangers who don't put huge feelings, just sexual tension and attraction in it. And I found James's admissions about his lack of extra-marital experience absolutely sweet - IMO, that and the previous exchange at the office really added a lot to James's character, to the type of man he is.
And ON TOP OF THAT, Rebecca, James's first lover, also played a role in triggering the whole "James has feelings for Katie" thing, bringing James and Katie's "flirting" to a whole new level! Now, how cool was that? And one thing I love about all this, in a perfectly fitting way for a show about men, it's all James's point of view. There has been nothing so far telling us that Katie has feelings for him that go beyond those you have for a friend you love. The advice she gives him is that of a friend. She is... absolutely unreadable. James has been the first to pronounce the word "feelings", we are seeing him starting to think about it. As a woman, I find it refreshing and thrilling that we don't know what goes through Katie's mind in this respect. Is something moving inside her now that James is single? :ponder: We don't know yet.
As Southerngal said, things are changing for them on every level. The board meeting when he surprised everybody by promoting her was one great scene  . I saw a glimse of Michael Vaughn there but... yes, that's me, you know how Michael Vaughn obsessed I am  I hope they (the authors) take their time with them. I must say I'm a bit worried about certain things Nia said (no spoilers here ;) ), I really wouldn't want things to be hasted.
Two words about the others, out of pars conditio, maybe?
Cameron's apparently “know it all” attitude is merely defensive. She’s the survivor of a divorce, daughter of an emotionally immature (but now finally maturing) father, and of a mother who has revealed that she either has issues with being totally honest, or is as scared as hell of being hurt again by Mr All-Models-In-My-Bed :evilbanana:
And I know that many have said they're fed up with the Karl-Wendy-Marla storyline, but I find them amusing. In a classic-comedy way. When it's the three of them, the register totally changes, it's not realistic anymore, and JM, in very gentlemanly fashion, leaves the floor to his two women. I must say that, while Jessica Collins seems to have a face and a body made for that role, Amy doesn't, and that's why I find her particularly brilliant in that role. I really enjoyed certain exchanges between the two of them. It's not a situation that can be dragged on for too long, for sure, but for me it has worked so far Let's see what they come up with now.
Next is... the Silver Cometh :whoohoo:
