It's 1719 in the West Indies. The Caribbean Sea is boiling in the war and there is no quiet place ashore or at sea. Besides the political turmoil which leads the colonies at each other's throats, pirates and privateers are on the prowl. Come spend some time with us BEFORE THE MAST, on any ship you like!

The highly professional pirate doctor, with us since May 2011, has been the most active character of 1719, with about 350 posts. She is a complex and well researched character, written by an active, faithful and enthusiastic writer, full of initiative and imagination.

Taking into account that the writer’s mother tongue is not English, even more deserved congratulations!

This is an old inn in Nassau, with a simple and enduring charm, located not far from the market streets, parallel to the road and entoured by greenery. Its reputation lasts since the time when the father of the present innkeeper was in charge, and when pirates and privateers were almost the only customers. Then it was the best inn in town. Now there are two more expensive ones, but not better as concerns services.

It deserves the name of “Providence Heaven”, even if the name has actually a different origin than any religious people might dream. It took his name, many years ago when New Providence was still a pirates’ den, from the name of the island, a safe haven for pirates. Its sign, hanging in front, on one of the pillars, tells clearly that it is the real origin of the name, and not the Bible:

The building has two stories, a medium-pitched roof, a centered front door with windows centered on either side of the house. In the back, there is a lean-to where the kitchen is located, a stable, a backhouse (i.e. bathroom).

The architecture is simple, symmetric, in Colonial style, with straight lines and a front porch supported by pillars. The door opens up to an entryway that leads to the main room.

On the ground floor, there is a main hall, with the bar located at the rear end and two lateral cabinets, and a couple of booths for private parties. The staircase leading at the upper floor is central and all the little rooms branch off from the main room. The main room is filled with a mixture of small and large tables and several comfortable chairs around it. On the left wall there is a big fireplace.

On the upper floor, there are sixteen rooms. Most of them are for rent, but the inn keeper lives here too. There is also an attic with a few rooms for the barmaids.

The inn has upper average prices, but a good service and a good atmosphere. Meals and drinks are of good quality, and one can see Navy and privateers alike inside. Well, some years ago there were pirates instead, but we make efforts not to remember this detail…
