I can't imagine working for this parish these days. Some of the employees say the craziest things. The article in the Courier was in regard to people putting signs along the roadside. This is against the law. The article went on to talk about tickets being issued to the offenders.

This is an excerpt from the article, "Another problem with ticketing people is that a lot of the signs have a company’s name but no address, Gordon said. They might have a telephone number, but it’s difficult to get a written warning to a company when you can’t find them, he said." Is this craziness to anyone else? A business is advertising & there is no address so no ticket can be issued?????? There is phone number. Can the police not find out an address???? Of course they can!!! You can't find a company because there is no address on the sign??? How crazy was this statement???

Is it just me or is this idiotic????

It amazes me that Pat Gordon made this statement & the reporter for the paper didn't even question this. They printed the quote & went about their business.

I hope nobody from outside the Parish reads this article. They must think everyone here is like this. God please help us!

A lot of the phone numbers that are given are mobile (cell) phone numbers and there is really no way trace it back to a address. With ever increasing use of mobile phones it is making it harder and harder to locate people. Take a look at how many times the police and fire dept. rolls on false alarms because of calls from mobile phones then rethink about this, it will change your mind quite quickly.

Most of the illegal signs are put on parish property, the coucilmen pass these codes and oridances expecting the police to take care of it all. I have yet to see a code enforcement officer go out to fine blaring loud music from cars, to fine the owners signs that are on parish property. But the code enforcement officer is quick to go after citizens for having high grass. The police should be going after the criminals that are break state statues instead oF parish oridances. Your tax dollars are going towards code enforcement officers that are not enforcing all of the oridances that these counsels are making.

I get your point. I agree that it appears silly to have policemen enforcing a sign ordinance. Law enforcement officers are there to enforce all laws. They are all overworked & underpaid.

My point is that if a business goes to the trouble of paying to print signs, why would they make it impossible to find their business?

I was a fire dispatcher, so I know about cell phones, false alarms, & 911 calls dialed by mistake. That is a completely different issue.

I am not talking about calling the up the police by mistake, it is on purpose because they know they can not be traced on a mobile phone. An illegal company or a person with illegal signs also are doing this on purpose, putting mobile phone number on signs so they can not be trace. Most of these sign only have a phone number and the person meets you at your location not theirs. Police don't have the time or resources to call the number and tell the person to meet them at a certain location, because police don't have the time to be just sitting there. These ordinances are made by parish counsels and should be enforced by parish workers which are your code enforcement officers. They are the ones that have the time to sit and wait for someone to come to an appointment and fine them.

We must have some terrible citizens here. I'll definitely check this out. I want to know who these people are who are running illegal businesses.
