Prounounced ‘le al’, it is an area in Paris named for the large central wholesale marketplace that has formed into an underground modern shopping precinct formidably called Forum des Halles. It is like a pit with an open air center below ground full of sculptures, fountains, and mosaics. There is even the underground station Châtelet-Les-Halles, the central hub of the express rail system. Many think stealing and mugging are fun games to play here.
