I had a massive brainstorming session with my dad (who's an author btw) and this is what I got. I think it's awesome but I want to hear your comments too so let me know what you like and don't like. Remember this is supposed to be a huge site-wide affects-all-three-packs kind of plot that takes as long as our first main plot did (with the rebels and the war and all). So here we go, I'm gonna plunge right in.
It
starts with an earthquake....
Igneous fault in the Likuta Mountain territory shifts, and causes an earthquake (not uncommon to mountainous regions) that is at least 8.0 on the Richter scale. If you want info on what that kind of earthquake is like and what it can cause, look up the "New Madrid Earthquake of 1811 and 1812". That one changed the course of the Mississippi River, which is similar to what's going to happen here.
This earthquake causes some various things other than temporarily scaring the crap out of the wolves. First of all the quake causes tons of trees and rocks to shift, fall down, and clog up the rivers and lakes. Fallen trees create dam-like situations in the upper Silver River and rocks cause dam-like situations in the lower Rushpaw River. Now the big thing that the quake does is it opens up the floodgates to Likuta Mountains Skycloud Lake. Meaning that the mountains that hold the lake up there shift just enough to allow a leak of massive proportions and almost the entire content of the lake empties out into the valley where the Kiskana pack and Tyjiik pack dwell. This not only causes massive flooding but it also causes the Likuta Mountain Pack to be lacking a necessary water source.
The water from the lake naturally creates a temporary river and drains very quickly into the rushpaw/silver river (which in case you didn't know is the same river with different names). The river swells to massive proportions and becomes utterly uncrossable.
I would also like to say that this is also the time where relief from our drought ends. The fall is naturally a time when there is heavy rain, so as the rain comes down it adds to the flooding. Since there has been a drought all summer the soil of the entire region has become very hard and condensed and this means it does not absorb any of the water well which creates flash floods.
This is where the true beauty and drama of the plot comes in... remember that this river crosses right in the middle of our two valley packs. (There is an edited version of our site map down below to help illustrate the point I'm about to make). This splits both packs in half. Those wolves caught on the east side of the river have to stay in the east, those caught on the west side have to stay in the west. Remember these are flash floods and it all happens rather quickly so because of this and of general confusion of the situation it is near impossible for a wolf to switch sides of the river.
Heres the dramatic part... the wolves caught on the east side have to move to higher ground because of flooding, so some wolves from both Tyjiik and Kiskana have to move into the land of Likuta Mountain. All three packs or partial packs have to coexist in that one general area because there is no other option. They are forced to live with one another to survive... drama no? ^^
Now the wolves caught on the west side of the river obviously have to head for higher ground too. They have to try to enter the uninhabited mountains on the west of the valley. Since there are less of these wolves since there is no other pack in these mountains these wolves have no other choice but to merge together (those from Tyjiik and those from Kiskana) in order to survive.
The wolves as a whole have to learn to work together to survive and learn to deal with food shortages, how to live in new settings (the mountains) how to hunt new prey due to the new setting, and how to get along without their other half or with a boat load of guests living in your land.
love it, hate it, well then please say so...
I <3 drama!!!!
HERE'S THE MAP!!! :

edit: now that I look at my map I should have made the river swell out larger... because it would. Also we can keep the plot going into winter because the water of the river would be deeper than normal and would therefore not freeze over or the ice would be far too thin and it would still be uncrossable until spring or maybe even summer...
