Thunder clapped in a constant crescendo. The Keep's tall archways and hallways were lit by the numerous torches and the many flashes of lightning. All was silent in the castle-like Keep as the highland storm raged at full force outside. A secret passage door slowly and silently opened near the north end of the western-most hallway leading to the Laird's chamber. A cloaked shadow slinked into the dying torch light near the secret passage. A frail-looking hand came out of the folds of the cloak and pushed a brick on the wall next to the secret passage door, and the passage door closed, silently and revealed no trace of the passage being there. The cloaked figure moved slowly toward the closed door at the end of the hallway. The figure paused to make sure it had not been followed, or that none of the residents inside the Keep had awaken unexpectedly, and listened. Upon hearing silence, she continued down the hall to the door. The figure reached the door and carefully opened the heavey wooden door with ease, and slipped quetly into the chamber.
Upon entering the chamber, the figure slipped off the hood and took in the room. The lightning flashes caught the tall figures eerie features. It was very apparent her features were not human, exactly. They were that of a pure Elf. She had silvery-blonde hair, a slim figure underneath the cloak. A figure hat emanated strength and feral grace. Her eyes were the deepest amethyst, and there was a sparkling sapphire ring on her right hand. The Elf stood still as she surveyed the room. She knew her people believed that their ties with the MacKlin clan were thinning. Most often in the past, an Elf woman of highborn blood would mate with a mortal man of the MacKlin clan and raise the child in their hidden realm, and then return the child back to the mortal realm as a man. It was now her turn to continue the ancient ritual tonight with this Laird. But something wasn't right.
Theralthia Lenne Elanesse glanced behind her and then back to the bed. There was still no movement from behind her, from the door, or from in front of her, from the bed. She walked towards the bed and then stopped. She could see a man's form lying on the bed, and from the looks of the stained sheet, he wasn't going to be doing anything in the future. The Laird was dead, and growing cold by the second. There was blood covering the sheets, spread out from where his body lay. She couldn't escape the anger that consumed her. She was thwarted of fulfilling the legacy that was handed down to her by her people's Elders. An eerie shreik ripped from her sensitive throat. Her anguish growing as the anger ripped her in two. Half wanted revenge for this betrayel, and the other half of her wanted to die for having to return to her people in shame.
Theralthia crashed to the floor from the sheer force of her anger. She stayed on the floor for a few moments before she slowly stood up, and she couldn't move to leave the room just yet. She slowly made her way to the door, tears running down her cheeks as she realized that this had been her only chance for redemption. She could not go back to her people and simply be accepted back into their society. Her family was one of the most ancient of all the Light Elven bloodlines. The Dark Elves could not lay claim to that fact. She was one of the three daughters, Isren Nienna and Gulduin, that were in line to fullfill this legacy for their people.
She stood before the secret door and thought about the consequences if she stayed and if she left. There was only one thing she could do: go toe the future and bring someone back that could solve the mystery of who had murdered the last Laird of the Macklin clan. And why. With her decision made, she left the keep by the secret passage, making sure that no one was following her. It was almost dawn, she would need to hurry before someone saw her. She made it into the forest surrounding the Keep. She stopped and turned around to look at the Keep one last time. And then she turned back the way she'd been heading and ran on inhumanly swift legs to her favorite place, Loch Ness Lake.
She arrived shortly after sunrise. She stood on a cliff that overlooked the Loch. She took in the panoramic view before her before she set about conducting the spell that would take her into the future. After a few moments, she took a deep breath and began the chant for the spell. An image in her mind of the place and time of 'when' she wanted to go. After some moments passed, the landscape shimmered and seemed to melt away. In it's place was the modern-day Loch Ness Lake.
