2012 - End of the World!, discussion

Will the world end on 21st December 2012. No you crazy idiot I hear you say but actually the more you read up about it the more likely you are to stock pile food and head for the hills.

Why might the world be ending?

The Mayan calander (more accurate than our current one) is coming to the end of one of its cycles and when it does the world usually comes to and end and then starts over again. Previous cycles have been ended by fire, water and wind.

How will it end this time?

Lots of ways...

Super volcano (yellowstone park or 12 others) could cause nuclear winter for Northen Hemisphere

Asteriod could do the same for us that one did for the Dinosaurs.

Magnetic field reversal. The world magnetic field is in the process of reversing and when it filps it would cause havoc.

Solar flare, sun spot activity will peak in 2012 and a big flare in the wrong direction could zap us all to a crisp.

This isn't the first time I've heard about this date...

It is also believed by the Brahma Kumaris that the world is coming to the end of a cycle (around 2012) and that it will transform into the new world after the whole population has been wiped out, and the new cycle will begin, this usually occurs by some natural disaster, pretty much like JSS mentioned.

With regards to the Mayan date, this is mentioned in Graham Hancock's books...

Also there are many other book specifically about this date, namely Beyond 2012: Catastrophe or Ecstasy - A Complete Guide to End-of-time Predictions by Geoff Stray, which is one JSS mentioned to me. I am going to look it up asap, see what I can found out lol, I don't want to waste the next 5 years of my life after all!!!

I am so going to be back in Australia come 2012.

My prediction is that the world will end in either something do with the earth, (because water, fire and wind have had their turn) or... and more likely, something man made. Remember albert einstein - he said he didn't know how world war three would start, but world war four will be fought with sticks and stones.

I have to say that this matter is really interesting...but also a bit scary... imho if ppl in our world dont do anything stupid like start 3rd world war...nothing bad will not happen that day

I think its interesting that the date they give is the winter solstice...the 'Ancients' paid great attention to these quarterly dates, especially the summer solstice that just past on 21st June. You only have to look at all the ancient monuments & stone circles, which many are aligned to focus on these dates, that you see they had such significance...

Seriously though - has anyone stopped to consider the fact that the Mayans just stopped making their calendar when they did? Not forgetting of course, the fact that the Mayans are now long dead as a civilisation... Then also the fact that a simple search on google produces a whole bunch of discussion as to who has interpreted the Mayan calendar correctly anyway...

Don't think I'll be tidying up my personal affairs anytime soon...

All of this stuff is simply scare tactics. A collective "Oh Noes11!" that has echoed around for countless centuries.

It has never, and will never, continue to bother me one tiny bit.

Well, I never said it really bothered me, and if it does end, then so be it, I won't care, coz I'll be dead , but I'm not going to waste the next five years of my life just in case...

I remember the last time the world was supposed to end... that was fun.. XD

Well, my motto is that anything is possible, and I don't intend to waste a moment of my life regardless of whether I die in 2012 or 2085...

In the meantime though, I adore consipracy theories like this, they are so fun to play with!

If and *when* the earth finally decides to end, that will most likely be when the sun has spent all of its energy, or the moon no longer remains in orbit around the earth(its moving away a little each day)

And we'll all go spinning out of control, or something to that effect anyway

I've heard this aswell but from what I understand 2012 will be the culmination of a period already started. The energies are supposed to speed up and the earth will start to vibrate in a higher frequency and enter a different frequency level or dimension. And the souls that stays on earth will then be living on a higher counsciounce level. Signs for this "energy speed up" (lacking words to describe it please bear with me anyway lol) we can supposedly see everywhere arouns us with natural disasters, climate change and more negativity in people. More people feeling bad inside, more crime, more violence. This because people can't hold in their emotions and supress them when the energy frequence is speeded up. People feel as if time is moving faster even children reflect on this.

I'm not sure if all this is true ...but I think I see many things around me that are pointing in this direction...

This is along the lines of the Brahma Kumaris beliefs that the world will be renewed and the souls that have reached a certain level spiritually wise are reborn on this renewed Earth and will then be living on a higher conscious level (in what they call the Golden Age)...

They also believe this is the time that this process of renewal is going to take place, and like you say, all the natural disasters and negativity, fighting, wars, abuse, climate change etc are all indicators that the old world is changing and the new world will emerge.

Now is the time to claim your place among the fortunate to live in this Golden Age. Make the effort now to cleanse the soul of negativity, become pure, lose the ego and the vices and live from your higher self...you literally have the power to change your world by doing this ("when you change the world changes" - Gandhi) and you will be helping in raising the conscious of the planet to this next level/stage/age...

Just to play devils advocate for a sec... what's everyone going to do when 2013 rolls around...and nothing happens?

Remember, these kinds of predictions have been made countless times over the centuries, and (here's the bit to pay attention to...) each and every one of them have been proven wrong

There have been all manner of spiritual and/or religious groups who have come along over the years with grandiose claims that the world will end in some way on a particular date, and whenever the proposed "date for the end of everything" has come and gone, with nothing happening, what have these groups done?

Moved the goalposts.

"oh we weren't serious about that date - but we are certain this time that it'll happen on this new date!"

Take the Jehovahs witnesses - they've predicted the end of the world at least 3 times in the last 130 years, the last prediction being for 1974!! Funnily enough, they don't like to talk about it too much anymore...

Wonder why...?

The end of everything was predicted when the first millennium rolled around 1000 years ago. It was predicted for the year 2000...

We're still here folks.

So - sometime between now and the end of 2012, I'm going to buy myself a big-ass lawn chair, and stock up on some really big bags of popcorn, then on Dec 21st I'm going to sit back in that chair, munch on the popcorn, and wait to see the mental gymnastics start when nothing happens...

BTW: Is there an actual time of day given for this event on Dec 21st? Which time zone are we talking about anyway? GMT?

I think I've said it before, but let me be clear, it is not my belief that the world will 'end' on any day in 2012. It is my belief that the world is slowly destroying itself, oh sorry, humans are destroying the Earth, using all its natural resources (which will run out) etc and from 2012 we will see a much bigger impact because of this, we are already seeing an increasing amount of natural disasters and global warming etc all this will soon have a knock on effect on the world markets and such, if they aren't already...just think what will happen when the worlds oil supply starts to dwindle...

Well I don't believe it's about a specific day, as pegasus angel said I think this is a natural consequence of our way of life and another step towards enlightenment.

If nothing happens after 2012 I guess i'll be thankful that the thought of this possibility made me get my "thumb out" ( pardon the language) and make a change in my life and that maybe or rather probably my life will be richer for it.

I won't feel silly or stupid because I dont claim to know the future for the earth, I only know the future I want to have and that goes in line with letting go of my negativity and finding peace of mind with whatever comes along in the future for me personally and for this planet.

Yes, I have understood the world will transform at some stage , the old world of sorrow giving way to the new land of happiness.

I have seen various science films recently " last days on earth"showing very interesting possibilities of how this will happen, a combination of natural disasters as well as nuclear explosions.

I agree that these predictions have been made before by various sources.A classic case of " Peter and the wolf". Expecting the wolf to appear one day many have actually taken these warnings seriously and worked on themselves to prepare cope in such circumstances.

THey have not incurred any form of loss.On the contary they are very special, powerful pure beings. The influence of one such person will protect many. They will provide the invaluable service needed in such horrific times.
As you can imagine conditions will be chaotic. What would help is if we were of stable mind and be of service to the suffering millions.

I believe time is cyclic and so all this has happened before.I am not worried about what will happen. What matters is am I happy with my preperations. Is my treasure store full Souls who are powerful have been remembered as helpers of God in His task of world transformation. What we earn is a spiritual income that goes with us to the new world.
