Apple.. i shudder everytime i hear that brand..

I was keen for an iphone and even went to one of only two apple stores in the entire country here to have a look at them. first impression was i liked it but not enough to get one straight away.. tried using the QWERTY keypad but my fingers are just to big so i don't want to have to find something to use the pad... other people i know have them and they say it isn't that great a phone.. I think i'll just stick with my Nokia N95 and wait a bit for the N97 and see what that is like..

I can put a funky ringtone on it... and that's all I need in a phone... tongue.gif (plus I cant stand the damn thing in any case - but they seem to be a necessary evil these days with my job... laugh.gif )

I just bought the iPod & iPhone Magazine today and it was really expensive! So what's new lol rolleyes.gif

It's really great for everything 'i' related and has loads of reviews of apps, docks, games, what's cool, hints & tips, shortcuts & tweaking etc...

* It had an article on the Twitter app I use 'Twitterific' and now I can do a few more things on there I didn't know about before after tweaking it. Like tapping, double or tripple tapping on the avatar for reply, retweeting or showing the user's profile...It has 3 themes too, but I liked the dark one it is default on so nothing new there...

* I also got the 'paypal' app which is free as I sometimes use that.

* There were several useful keyboard shortcuts that you can do if you press and hold certain keys, you get extended options, jsut try it out when you have the keyboard up...

* If you have a 3GS it tells you how to shoot and edit video content, looks quite good.

* Also tells you some cool apps for photos, all under £1.80...ArtCamera, CameraBag and Pano all were recommended...

* Anyone who has loads of 'things' to do each day can get organised with the app 'Things' which looks quite userfriendly...

* AroundMe is a great app if you're travelling to new places and need to find somewhere or anywhere...it has lists of parking, pubs, pharmacies, cafes, banks, hospitals, hotels, taxis, supermarkets etc... you click on the catagory and it gives you in more detail, like the map, route, address, tel no and such and you can also share the info on Twitter of course biggrin.gif

So the magazine was £5.99 but worth the quick read through and review here...

Does the magazine have a website? If so, how many of the articles could you access for free on there? (save yourself 5.99 a month that way wink.gif )

(I get MaximumPC magazine when I'm at home, but they now give away PDF versions of issues older than about a month or 2 on their site...)

I've been using my new app called ArtCamera, its pretty basic and has like 25 different filters you can apply to any pic on your iPhone...

So for example, the original below can be made to look more arty with a few filters, apparently you can layer them too for more effect, but for a simple example:

Francis Bacon Filter

Claude Monet Filter

Modern Art Filter

Anyway, I think its pretty coolish, but the app cost 1 pound, so only check it out if you want to pay, apparently there will be an update to the app soon with more filters...

The NASA app is really cool as it gives new reports on missions, videos of missions, images and its tweets on Twitter. There are webisodes of its mission over the Antarctic which is pretty cool, all done in short few minute clips...

So if you're interested in Space like me, then you'll love this app smile.gif

Have been looking at the utilities apps and there are a few noteworthy ones...

Finger Scale - this one you can use the iPhone to actually weigh small objects like coins, jewelery, or whatever little objects fit on it...pretty cool...app is 59 pence to buy...

Nightvision - only useful if you don't want other people to know you're there...lol but I guess it helps you see in the dark without destroying your natural nightvision, say if you were observing stars or something...dunno lol...again 59 pence...

Global TV Guide - as it says and supports quite a lot of channels world wide - 59 pence...

Fingerprint Scanner - fool your friends with this one biggrin.gif

Convert Units for free - converts multiple things eg pressure, mass, area, temp, time, volume, speed, force and length etc...app is free...

Two noteworthy apps:

NatWest - for UK users is a great way of keeping up to date with your account, the only thing you can't do is physically get money out of your phone Giggle.gif

Sanctuary and Beyond - for fans of Sanctuary, an interactive app with lots of interesting stuff on it...Sez can perhaps tell us more, I haven't got wifi coverage atm so can't use the video features...

Dunno about natwest i question how secure the network is just my opinion

Sanctuary one is pretty cool 59p to download and give behind the scenes footage, before special effects, Amanda directing, and some spoilers so far, i enjoyed it but hoping more videos come online to make it worth my 59p

Don't know if this applies to anyone here, but if you know what I mean by the term "Jailbreaking" your iPhone, then the following is well worth a read... wink.gif

Another iPhone worm...

Thanks for the warning Vill, not that it applies to me of course, but you never know wink3.gif

Amanda Tapping's fave app is apparently 'Midomi Music Identifier and Search' and basically if you're listening to a tune and you don't know what it is you start the app and hold the iPhone to the speaker, it will find the song for you or you can even hum a few lines and it will search for the closest match...all for 2.99 biggrin.gif
