According to elemental scholars, and individual uses magic by controlling energy around them. The exact process is very complicated and difficult to understand. But even with science factoring in, there's always something about magic that remains mystical and unexplained. Coming up is a list of known magic, explaining the basics and some common uses. Note that this info is based mainly on elementals, on account they were the ones to document and keep notes. Other beings that have the same magic normally are not able to become as skilled in the element as the elementals. And be wary, magic is power, and if one is not careful and attempts to do more than they are capable of with their magic it can control them. Individuals controlled by magic are dangerous and violent. They will go into a frenzy until they either regain control, or the magic tears them apart.

Fire: Fire magic is based around moving and condensing energy. Most beginners in learning the art find that they can do quite a bit of damage without conjuring a flame. It takes much skill to control flames, years of learning and mistakes. It is best to keep in mind that being the caster doesn't make you fireproof. It is actually an often quickly learned skill to make it appear as though one is standing in flames. There are many tricks one can do with fire magic if they take the time to learn. Conjuring a flame away from ones body is difficult. It takes years to learn how to set things aflame from a distance. Very few fire elementals are able to set objects aflame from a far distance, those that do master the technique are generally those with hopes of becoming a teacher of the art themselves. The power of fire magic is gauged by how warm the caster's flame is. This ranges from fire that is safe to touch to flames that can incinerate a person in seconds.

Ice: Ice magic is surprisingly similar to fire magic in the way it works. The difference is that when using ice magic, energy is removed from the concentrated area. Moister in the air can be used to create ice or snow. Ice magic is not simply removing energy though, it has been found that more skilled users are sometimes able to pull in water from varying distances while casting. Ice magic users are not immune to cold, it only seems that way. Apparently the removed energy is transferred into the caster, creating warmth. This, however, remains only a theory. Ice magic has been used in the past to create deadly blockades of pointed ice or attacking whole armies with showers of shattered ice that would function like shards of glass, but more recently many keep up their skill by making sculptures of ice and snow. The weakest ice magic is not cold enough to create ice, and is best compared to a refrigerator. Powerful ice magic, however, can be as cold as liquid nitrogen.

Nature: Beginning learners of nature magic are often first taught about plants. What's dangerous, what's edible, and so on before being taught their first spell. The first spells are often a simple how-to for slightly speeding up a plant's growth. Nature magic does have a lot to do with plants. Highly skilled masters are often rumored to be able to make entire forests rise in a day. This is, of course, simply not true. For speeding up plant growth there needs to be enough nutrients available for the plant to grow. And there need to be at least seeds. Another ability, however, is the ability to conjure up plants made of magic energy from soil. This can take more or less effort than actually growing real plants, depending on the situation, but these plants are only temporary and fade away quickly or slowly (depending on size) after casting. Conjured plants can be made to grow much faster than a real plant ever could. It takes more power to conjure a larger plant. Nature magic can also be used to heal wounds. The magical energy is used to speed up the natural healing process, but only slightly. Causing wounds to heal to quickly, what many rookies discover, can cause massive damage and pain. Cuts and gashes can be sewn with small conjured vines on the field until something more suitable is found. Many rely more on their knowledge of plants than they do on their magic for healing. Power is gauged by the size of a plant conjured, due to it being the most accurate.

Water: Water magic is often debated, as far as what can and cannot be considered water magic skills. What we do know is that there are spells that allow underwater breathing. There needs to be enough oxygen in the water for aquatic life, like fish, in order for the lower levels of this spell to work. At higher levels less oxygen needs to be present in the water, exactly how none really knows. Water magic can also pull water from the surrounding air or water source, though the caster must be careful as to how much water they have suspended in the air. Too much and it will be like trying to carry a heavy load. The strength of water magic is measured by how much water they can hold in the air at once without dropping it. Water magic was once used in healing, but the effectiveness of this always depended on the cleanliness of the water.

Thunder: More correctly called electric magic. This magic is pure electrical energy, and no matter how skilled a caster the electricity is never really under control. Power is measured by the maximum amount of bolts one can cast safely. From harmless sparks to potent bolts. Water and metals can easily interfere with this magic. Many casters learn quickly to redirect the dangerous energies through their bodies without hitting vital organs, just in case of a misfire. The electric charge is pulled from the surrounding area to create the sparks and bolts. As a result, in a humid area casting such magics may be difficult. Though one can use the electric energy generated in ones own body, it is not without great risks.

Wind: Wind magic has to do with air. As long as there is air, wind magic can be used. Wind magic can be used to create currents of air. The force of these winds are based on the power of the spell. More powerful casters will be able to create faster air currents. But wind magic is more than just straightforward gusts. It also involves moving the gusts in patterns, to form cyclones, updrafts, and so on. It is possible to trap an individual using wind magic. Wind magic can be used for brief underwater travel. By creating an air pocket around oneself, one can travel underwater. But it should be remembered that breathable air in that pocket will be limited.

Light: Light magic is quite simply summoning light. Exactly how, we can't be sure. The strength of the spell is based on the brightness of the light. Dim light is weaker than light that is so bright your eyes hurt. Summoning light can be a useful skill. It is often underestimated. Though it's not much for brute force in battle, it can obstruct sight.

Shadow: Shadow magic actually diminishes light. The more light that can be removed, the more powerful the spell. It is a magic best used to catch an opponent off guard. It is often found users of this kind of magic rely more on other senses rather than sight anyway. The every day usefulness of this kind of magic involve blocking glare and sunlight. Children often learn to make some rather nice shadow puppets as well.

Time: Time magic is shrouded in mystery. There are no users of the art alive today. What is know was that the users were known as prophets, able to gaze at the paths that the world may, has, and could have traveled.

Illusion: Illusion magic focused around making objects appear as what they are not. This form seems to live on in modern human magicians, but that kind is only a slight of hand and mirrors. The real kind died off with its users.

Celestial: Celestial magic had to do with cosmic bodies. It was said that these spell casters could create miniature stars and planets. Had the ability to summon meteors, call forth comets. Exactly how, we don't know. The info was lost in a great fire that wiped out the capital.

Ultima: Ultima magic is the magic of life. All beings have ultima magic inside them, holding together the body and soul. Ultima magic can be used to mend a soul back into a body. Some beings do this subconsciously, others have more control. Ultima magic can hold together multiple forces of magical energies. But it can not ever be truly controlled. Those who try to use this life giving force find themselves overcome with power.- Written on a tablet found in the archives, translated.

Chaos: The death scribes come, unraveling the threads created by ultima magic. Slowly over time, until death is met.-??? Chaos magic is shrouded in mystery. No one really knows what it does, many say it is the cause of death by old age. In the time elemental scriptures, it is said that the chaos elementals along with the ultimas will repair the dead and broken world. Most believe that this is no more than a myth or fairy tale from ages ago.
