Greetings all,

Well, well, well! I have been away for some times, mostly off to the lands to the west and I have spent some time with an old friend of mine who runs a school, but now I have returned and I have some interesting news which many of you may already know:

(Posted Image)

Mr. Baggins is throwing another party! I have known for some time, but only this week did he make a formal announcement, but what he has planned he is keeping a secret (so far). It will be the last weekend of September spilling over into October 2011. A website and a note from Mr. Baggins are forthcoming.

Now I must be off again, for once again there is much for me to do, and many errands at hand. I hope to see you all again soon.

~Grey Wizard

Calloo calay! Yippee! I hope that there will be a place on the schedule for a poor poet and scholar to once again offer her musings. :book:

Wonderful news!
All best,

Well, one year went by quickly enough. Now, just to wait two more....

Bilbo and Gandalf, I must say a very great THANK YOU for even considering such a large undertaking. It would have been very natural to have said...."Never Again!" despite our clamoring for more. And hopefully this time, you will know when to ask for help, so that it will not be quite so daunting an undertaking!

Sorry I didn't make Dragon*Con this year; a new job starting up made such plans impossible, but it was just as well I didn't intend to travel that weekend, as I would have needed to stay in town for a funeral anyway.

I know "Mr. Wizard" is working on a new web site; when it will be up I do not know.

As for registration, he could better tell you.

I would assume entertainment, nourishment, and lecturers would have to be secured before a final price could be posted.

I will inquire of him these questions. You know how Wizards are. They act as if they have all the time in the world for these things, and the rest of us want to party, party, party right now!!

Oh my! I would love to be there!

I'm going to have to figure out some way to remind myself to check here for news.

If anyone hears of the assembling of an emailing list, tell my dear Cousin Bilbo and our good friend Gandalf to put me on it :)

I'll be there with bells and such on in all the appropriate places. This is what we all need.

Unfortunately, I have nothing clever to say right now but wanted to post anyway. Maybe some wondrous words will turn up later. Too many papers to grade and I also have to think about the paper I need to write for an upcoming any minute now conference in St. Louis --Frodo and Faramir: Mirrors of Chivlary is the title I am working with at the moment.

If Daughter of Chaucer is still visiting these boards, perhaps she'll have a comment or two to offer me. Actually, I am happy to hear about Frodo and Faramir as examples of knightly behavior from anyone and everyone. Feel free. :feedback:

Maybe I should start a new thread????

Love and light,
Shire Scholar

Thank you! Frankly, right now I am at the writing stage where I can say to you, "Tell me what you think it means and then we'll both know."

But I am reading A Knight's Own Book of Chivalry written by 14th century knight par excellence Geoffroi de Charny :rider: :aragorn:

as a kind of manual for the newly sworn members of France's Company of the Star (kind of like England's Order of the Garter). It's fairly poetic and very informative, as it has the virtue of having been written by someone for whom knighthood and the code of chivlary (read: prowess and honor) was an actual "doing it now" profession.

This is helping. I am also re-reading all the Faramir stuff and watching the films closely to find out what my point is. Such is the life of a scholar, Shire or otherwise.
:book:

Thanks for your encouragement.

It's a dirty job, but someone has to do it! Good luck with your research -- just thinking about this makes me want to break out the DVDs again...
