I'd very much like to come to this, but won't know about my schedule for awhile yet. One major problem is logistics - it's a 10 hour drive for me (I've actually been to the Shaker Village before - how crazy is that!?) Any flight out of BWI is going to involve a stopover, though I suppose I could get a direct flight out of Dulles in DC.

Anyway, so I'd like to get there as quickly as possible, so I miss less work, but I don't see that happening. If I drive, leaving Thursday afternoon would get me in around 2 AM, or leaving early Friday morning could get me in in time for dinner that night. But a 10 hour drive alone is not much fun and very tedious. I've done it before...but it was good I didn't have to be back!

So, is anyone else planning on coming from the Baltimore area? I'd be more comfortable with the drive if I knew there was someone around to keep me awake and amused ;). Another possibility would be for me to pick someone up on the way - I have to drive all the way across western Maryland and through West Virginia to Kentucky, if that helps.

Hoping I can make it....

I hope you can too. Let me add a note to long drives.

Mr.Baggins & I elected to drive to Toronto last year just so we could see the country. We both knew it was an epic journey before us, and it would also make an imposing drive after the Gathering was over.
In the end, it was a very good thing, and we talked about many things (even the groundwork was begun for ALEP, in some fashion) and had many adventures. For myself, I learned much I did not know of our country and the lay of the land and the folk that inhabit it.
Looking back, I consider it a valued part of the trip, rather than a long boring drive, so I very much recommend traveling by way of path and road to ALEP if you can manage it and if you can find someone to join you on your adventure.

Bring back any good tales or songs you hear along the way…

Another idea might be to fly into somewhere and meet up with people who will be going. There are at least 3 of us in Nashville going and you could hitch a ride with one of us.

I drove from Baltimore to Toronto by myself for the Gathering - and that was 10 hours. On the way back, I got to break it up by visiting friends half-way.

I *don't* want to drive 10 hours by myself each way if I can help it! I like roadtrips, but that's two days off work, at least. I'm not sure I can ask for that. Last time I drove to Asbury, it was with 2 friends; but the people we were visiting no longer live there.

Nashville? Hmmm, I've flown from Dulles to Nashville. (I have a cousin there) I'll check into BWI to Nashville. Thanks!

I'm hoping to come out from BC...is anyone else here coming from this direction?
Possible chance of meeting up for flights?

I'd LOVE to drive but it's a long ways!

I'm about 20 mins. South of Balto (on the Parkway). I was thinking about flying out of BWI, but I'd be willing to accompany you.

I should check in more often!

The scheduling conflict I feared is likely to occur on the weekend prior to this. So, I'm crossing my fingers and waiting to hear the final plans from my work.

So, keep me posted on your plans, Olotie!

Oh, sorry - I don't mean to ignore you! I work for a school. I need the schedule for next year to make sure this weekend isn't one of the ones I have to work. But we don't generally finalize the schedule for the coming year until some time in May. So, I will ask around at work, and see if this weekend is available, and then we can plan - flying or driving, it's always nicer to travel with someone, if possible!

Well, it looks like Olotie and I are driving down on Thursday and back on Sunday (barring any last minute awesome deals on airfare).

One nice thing about driving is I won't have to figure out how to get my sword through airport security without them losing my luggage. ;)

I realize it's rather late, but if anyone else is in the Baltimore area (or on the way), speak now...I have room in my car :).
