QUOTE (Seamus on July 8 2006 @ 11:42pm)
Quite some time back I posted profiles I did for a bunch of Stormlord houses. I have a new campaign starting and so I've updated them and re-formatted to the format found in the AGOT handbook, Chapter 5. They are bent towards my campaign dealing with the Kingswood Brotherhood and set 5-6 years before Robert's Rebellion but they still might be useful to others for adventure ideas, starting points, whatever. I have 2 done. I'll post the other 12-15 I have once I have redone the format.

Buckler
Strong and wealthy, House Buckler is a proud house and rules its lands with an iron fist.

House History
House Buckler is seated at Bronzegate where the Kingsroad exits the Kingswood. Originally a smelting center for the copper ores mined in the nearby hills and mountains, Bronzegate is also a busy way station for travelers and merchants on the Kingsroad. The Bucklers are an old and wealthy family with a strong martial tradition. Tasked with protecting both the Kingsroad and their mines, the family is quick to train its sons in warfare. With the volume of trade that passes through Bronzegate, the daughters of the family are often schooled in mercantilism, left to handle the business end of House Buckler’s affairs while the men deal with the martial aspects. Lord Buckler’s son, Robin, was murdered just one year ago by bandits in the Kingswood while putting down an uprising led by a landless knight. House Buckler’s reprisals have been brutal but the outlaw problem continues to grow. The current Lord of Bronzegate, Michael Buckler, is ailing. His grandson Ser Steffon stands ready to take up the title of Lord of Bronzegate.

House Personality
The symbol of House Buckler is three brass buckles on a blue field. Their motto is “Brave and Hospitable”. The Bucklers are known for being both but are also known for being ruthless with their enemies, especially with outlaw groups. Lawlessness is met with the strictest punishments on Buckler land. The house takes great pride in its reputation and honor and its members are unwavering in their loyalty to House Baratheon.

House Holdings
The seat of House Buckler is the town and castle of Bronzegate. Part mining town, trading town, and military outpost, Bronzegate is always busy. It serves as the commercial center for the Stormlands. Hospitality is the name of the game at Bronzegate with services catering to nearly every need a traveler could have. It is also a gathering point for sell swords and hedge knights looking for work protecting those traveling through the Kingswood.

House Position
House Buckler has an excellent reputation with other noble houses, much less so with its own smallfolk. The men of House Buckler are known as brave warriors though with the Seven Kingdoms in a state of peace their primary concern is ending the growing bandit problem in the Kingswood. This has led to a growing conflict with House Rogers whose lord has complained to Lord Robert Baratheon that House Buckler’s methods only serve to worsen the situation.
ALLIED HOUSES: Baratheon, Penrose, Errol
ENEMY HOUSES: None, though relations with House Rogers are tense

House Destiny
Lord Buckler’s son Robin was competent and capable. The house is still reeling from his death. With Lord Michael ailing, his grandson Ser Steffon rules unofficially. Unfortunately, Ser Steffon is blinded by rage over his father’s murder and will not rest until he feels it properly avenged.

Mertyns
An ancient house dating back to the time of the First Men, House Mertyns controls much of the southern half of Cape Wrath.

House History
House Mertyns formed in the shadows of ages past. The Mertyns claim one of their ancestors, Oros Mertyns, provided some of the spells that were worked into the walls of Storm’s End. In return, Durran, the first Storm King, rewarded him with lands encompassing much of Cape Wrath. House Mertyns deliberately chose to build their castle on the side of Cape Wrath opposite to Storm’s End much as they chose to build several leagues away from the coast in a thick, isolated forest already the home of haunting tales and an unsavory reputation. Ensconced in their keep of Mistwood, the reputation of House Mertyns and the surrounding area grew more sinister with the passing of the years. However, the Mertyns were loyal to the Storm Kings and seemed to trouble only their own local smallfolk so they were left to their ways despite rumors of sorcery and tales so lurid it seemed the whole House was consumed with madness. Indeed the surrounding noble families avoided interaction with House Mertyns and even the Storm Kings seemed reluctant to call on them except for when situations demanded use of their dark ways and secrets.

So it was that House Mertyns slid into isolation and a self-consuming debauchery, reaching an almost antediluvian state by the time Aegon Targaryen arrived in Westeros. A few years before Aegon’s conquest began, the Mertyns unexpectedly awoke from their torpor to strike out at several neighboring noble houses; almost as if they knew Argilac the Storm King would soon be preoccupied. When Orys Baratheon besieged Storm’s End, Aithen Mertyns provided Orys with the knowledge to partially bypass the spells and defenses of Storm’s End and break the siege. When Orys Baratheon traveled to Mistwood to reward House Mertyns for their loyal service he instead stripped them of most of their pre-invasion gains and took Aithen’s two eldest children, ostensibly as wards but more likely as hostages. It is unknown what Orys saw or what happened while he was there, perhaps he only felt threatened by the knowledge House Mertyns had of the defenses of Storm’s End.

Fostered under Baratheon care, James Mertyns, his brother Jon, and Jon’s son Kevan brought much-needed normalcy to Mistwood. The decline in magic seemed to do wonders for the disposition and mindset of members of the House. Michael Mertyns, known as the White Owl, served as a member of the Kingsguard during the reign of Aegon the Unworthy. The White Owl was a paragon of chivalry whose character was so impeccable that he has become a forgotten note in the history of Westeros, eclipsed by Aemon the Dragonknight and the infamous Terrence Toyne who also served under Aegon IV.

House Lothston, a kindred spirit and former ally is no more and their downfall has served a lesson to House Mertyns, raising their secrecy to new heights. The current head of the House is Othor Mertyns. Othor is near 70 years old though some whisper he is much, much older. Many rumors swirl about Othor stemming from the fact he traveled to Asshai in his youth to supposedly study with the Shadowbinders of Asshai. Two of his wives and several of his children have met with odd ends. His eldest living son has just returned from fostering with House Toyne. After years of isolation, House Mertyns appears to be stirring again, as if in anticipation of some great event to shake the lands of Westeros.

House Personality
House Mertyns has produced few noted warriors other than Ser Michael Mertyns. Members of the house have historically been scholars and rumored to be sorcerers in past times. The house keeps to itself and has little interaction with its neighbors though there has been historic strife with houses Fell and Toyne. The house has at best a troubled reputation with the local folklore and the behavior of the current lord doing little to enhance their image. House Mertyn’s symbol is a white great horned owl on a gray field. The owl is a two-fold symbol. The first is the owl as a symbol of wisdom. The second is the owl as an efficient predator, taking its prey unawares. The House motto is “In Darkness, We Shine”. Again, this has a dual meaning. First, it represents the house’s pursuit of the unknown and arcane down dim paths few dare to follow. Second, it echoes their seeming affinity for gain during dark and turbulent times.

House Holdings
The seat of House Mertyns is Mistwood. Built several leagues inland from the Sea of Dorne, the castle is ancient, nearly as old as Storm’s End. Mistwood once had one of the greatest libraries in the Seven Kingdoms, especially on the subjects of legends and occult lore. Unfortunately, it burned down shortly after Lord Othor claimed Mistwood and it is believed all the books and manuscripts were lost.

House Position
Out of all the houses on Cape Wrath, House Mertyns controls the most land but has the lowest number of available swords. They are largely ignored by the other Stormlords and operate with little outside contact. They have friendly relations with the landless houses Horpe, Tudbury, and Kellington. House Peasebury would wage open war against House Mertyns if possible. Lord Prester maintains Lord Othor murdered his daugher, though he has no evidence of this.
ALLIED HOUSES: Horpe, Tudbury, Kellington, Wylde (sometimes)
ENEMY HOUSES: Fell, Peasebury, Toyne (formerly), Wylde (sometimes)

House Destiny
House Mertyns best days would seem far in the past. However, Lord Othor has recalled his eldest son from fostering and is soon to recall his eldest daughter from Braavos. He has also spent more time and effort reaching out to neighboring Stormlords and has been trying to find a suitable lady for his heir.

Hi all. Archon asked me over on the GoO boards to post the feats for Mertyns and Buckler. Since it seems everyone is moving over to this site (that and GoO is down) I'm posting them here in this thread. I'm still working on changing the format of the other storm lord houses. Rearranging, editing, and adding to something like 20 house profiles takes a bit of time wink.gif

House Mertyns Feat: In Darkness, We Shine

Members of House Mertyns have an uncanny ability to see better than most in low light/darkness. In addition, members have a reputation for being knowledgeable or stealthy.

Prereq.: Member of House Mertyns

Benefit: The penalty for checks in low light is reduced to -2. The penalty for checks in darkness is reduced to -4. Additionally, the player should select one of the following benefits, +2 to move silent and hide or +2 to any two knowledge skills.

House Buckler Feat: Brave and Hospitable

The members of House Buckler have earned a repution for their valor in combat and gracious treatment of guests.

Prereq: Member of House Buckler

Benefit: The character gains a +1 to reputation as long as their existing reputation has some relation to bravery, valor, or courage. If not, the player may start a new reputation at +1 as long as it relates to bravery. In addition, the player gains 2 + Cha Modifier (minimum +0) bonus Influence points.

Cafferen
Honoring family above all else, House Cafferen will protect its own at any cost.

House History
The members of House Cafferen are best known as trackers and scouts rather than knights. They rarely participate in large conflicts or tournaments though their skills as scouts and trackers are highly sought. House Cafferen is small and without many resources but old and proud. Pre-dating the Targaryen invasion, House Cafferen served along with House Rogers as the Storm Kings’ personal scouts and elite irregulars. Their chief resources are lumber and the large herds of deer that populate the area. House Cafferen’s close proximity to the Reach has led to greater trade and relations with houses there than in the Stormlands. House Cafferen has a long history of support for the Faith, being one of the first houses to champion the cause of the Faith against Maegor the Cruel and one of the last to submit.

House Personality
The house motto is “Faith and Family”. House Cafferen’s symbol is two white fawns, rearing and crossed, on a field of green. The members of House Cafferen are particularly loyal and protective of each other, given their isolated location and their small numbers. This even extends to natural born children and is the source of House Cafferen’s current problems. House members largely view each other as equals and there is rarely in-house conflict. All members of the house are adept hunters and are on good relations with the woodsmen of the Kingswood.

House Holdings
House Cafferen’s stronghold is the stockade village and keep of Fawnton located in the southwest corner of the Kingswood. Though small by most standards, the village and keep are stoutly defended by pit and log traps and also by the local woodsmen. Fawnton serves as a meeting place for news and barter in the southwest Kingswood.

House Position
House Cafferen has a quiet existence and prefers to keep things that way. They are content with their land and current wealth with no desire to expand. Being far from courtly circles, the Cafferens tend to be a bit rustic and they are proud of it. The growing bandit problem in the Kingswood threatens to engulf House Cafferen and has put them at odds with their liege lord, Robert Baratheon.

ALLIED HOUSES: Meadows, Blackbar, Fell
ENEMY HOUSES: None, though relations with House Baratheon are tense.

House Destiny
Lord Arrec Cafferen’s base-born daughter Wenda is a known criminal and member of the nascent Kingswood Brotherhood. Fair of skin and hair, she has dropped her bastard’s name of Storm and taken to calling herself "The White Fawn". Wenda has taken a single white fawn for her symbol and has been known to brand this symbol into her victims. Lord Cafferen denies he knows how to find her but few believe this. He has asked Robert Baratheon to allow House Cafferen to handle the matter of her capture and punishment, or better yet pardon her altogether. Robert recently lost his parents and had no desire to deal with the issue. When pressed, Robert flatly refused Lord Cafferen’s requests. His brother Stannis called for the girl’s capture and public execution as well as punishment for Lord Arrec should he be hiding Wenda. This led to an intense argument between Robert, Stannis, and Lord Arrec, witnessed by many at Storm’s End. Lord Cafferen departed with all of his men and the relationship between House Cafferen and House Baratheon is greatly strained.

Horpe
Founded in the time of Orys Baratheon, House Horpe can make problems go away or create new ones.

House History
Orys Baratheon created House Horpe after granting noble status to his three Justices. These executioners were brothers, Atros, Stys, and Chesis. Hailing from Braavos, they took a moth common to their homeland as their symbol. In the lore of the Free Cities, the moth was called Death’s Head and supposedly acted as death’s messenger, bringing doom to those it visited by night. Their heraldry has three of the moths to represent the three brothers. The Horpes were in time replaced by members of House Trant as House Baratheon’s Justice. As landless knights, the Horpes have found employment and made alliances with most of the Stormlords over the years but their reputation for brutality and a rumored cult obsession with the Stranger has left them with few true friends. Currently, they are most closely allied with House Mertyns with several members of the House in residence at Mistwood.

House Personality
House Horpe’s symbol is three death’s head moths on a grey and bone white field. Their motto is “Death Follows Me”. Members have a well-deserved reputation for fearlessness and look for bloody solutions to simple problems. Battle hardened and possessed of a mean cunning, House Horpe would be the perfect ally in tough times for someone worthy of their respect and allegiance. However, as their motto states “Death Follows Me” and more than one weak ally has found that out to their ultimate dismay. The house still holds to many of the cultural customs of their ancestral home of Braavos.

House Holdings
None, the house is currently landless

House Position
Ser Janos, the head of the house, dwells at Storm’s End, serving House Baratheon. His brother Harlon and sister Marianne are in residence at Mistwood, nominally serving House Mertyns. Maegor, the youngest brother, was last seen in Lys. Eager for conflict, Ser Janos has been encouraging the new lord of House Baratheon, Robert, to ride in force against the bandits in the Kingswood. Their enemies have a habit of dieing all too convenient deaths and rumors circulate that members of the house are as skilled at assassination as they are at direct conflict. The primary concern of House Horpe is to accumulate enough power and influence to become landed.

ALLIED HOUSES: Baratheon, Mertyns, Kellington, Wensington
ENEMY HOUSES: None

House Destiny
Too brutal and barbaric even by his brothers’ standards, Maegor pursues his own ends in the Free Cities. Harlon has sworn to kill him when next they meet. Janos lacks Harlon’s cunning and ability to think ahead. His control over his brothers is minimal and his current focus is to get Lord Robert to agree to squire his son. Harlon is a schemer who believes if the house is to advance its fortunes, they will need to think and wager big.

Prominent Members

-his wife WILLA of HOUSE WENSINGTON
-BRANDON HORPE, a squire

SOCIAL STATUS: Rank 3 (Member of a Minor House)

Death Follows Me
The founders of House Horpe were actually acolyte Faceless Men. Most of their skills have been lost over the generations but the expert knowledge of poisons, their uses, and their applications remains and is passed from one generation to the next.

Prerequisite: Member of House Horpe

Benefits: The character gains the Poisoner ability as described in the Maester Class, p. 116

Kellington
House Kellington is a small house known in the Stormlands for its strategic planning in both war and peacetime.

House History
House Kellington is a landless noble house of the Stormlands whose members have long served other Houses of the region as advisors. Several members of this House have been renowned battlefield commanders. Their devotion to study and attention to detail makes for a mastery of strategy and tactics and it is this competence that gained them their noble standing, bequeathed by Orys Baratheon himself. House Kellington has also produced more than a few Archmaesters in its near three hundred years of existence as its house motto, “Power Through Knowledge” would suggest.

House Personality
The Kellington heraldry is a black book bound and locked, on a blue field. The house motto is “Power Through Knowledge”. House members prefer to gather all the information and positioning they can before acting. When they do act, it is decisive and without hesitation. Members of the house tend to be consummate information gatherers and are not above blackmail and intimidation.

House Holdings
None, the house is landless.

House Position
Ser Stoddard has bound his house to House Mertyns. He started serving Lord Othor as his bodyguard and eventually became his friend and confidant. The house is small but has a disproportionate level of contacts and influence in the Stormlands.

ALLIED HOUSES: Baratheon, Mertyns, Wensington, Horpe
ENEMY HOUSES: None

House Destiny
The current head of House Kellington is Ser Stoddard Kellington, castellan of Mistwood and chief advisor to Lord Othor Mertyns. Ser Stoddard and his family yearn to join the ranks of the landed nobility. To this end, it is suspected they have a large spy network always searching for some tidbit of knowledge that they can parlay into gain and personal power.

SOCIAL STATUS: Rank 3 (Member of a Minor House)

Power Through Knowledge
For members of House Kellington, knowledge translates to power whether during war or peace.

Tudbury
A young noble house risen from the rank of hedge knights, few take House Tudbury seriously.

House History
House Tudbury is a relatively new noble house, gaining its status after the end of the Blackfyre rebellion. The progenitor of House Tudbury was a hedge knight, Ser Morris Tudbury, affectionately known as Slow Mo Tudbury for his deliberative approach to nearly every decision he ever faced from great to mundane. Ser Morris was insistent on weighing every possibility lest he make a mistake. At the time of the Blackfyre rebellion, Ser Morris was a hedge knight in service to House Baratheon. Ser Morris was in charge of a small contingent of cavalry positioned at the rear of the battle lines at the Battle of Redgrass Field. As the battle started, he hesitated, as was his nature, and opened a debate with his men on the merits of joining battle or holding their position. After over an hour of discussion, his men bored near to death, Ser Morris decided to hold his ground, convinced of a Blackfyre flanking maneuver. He was correct and as a line of Blackfyre cavalry prepared to take Baelor Breakspear unawares, Ser Morris and his men crashed into them, allowing Baelor Targaryen to join the battle and turn the tide at Redgrass Field.

House Personality
The house motto is “Make Haste Slowly”. The Tudbury heraldry is a brown tortoise within a yellow lozenge on green. Members of House Tudbury tend to be calculating and analytical to a fault though not necessarily wise or intelligent. They are nearly impossible to bribe or bait, as it would take so long for them to reach a decision the gain would hardly be worth the hassle. Discussions amongst or with family members can be horrific affairs, seemingly lasting forever, with all points and possibilities considered no matter how improbable or bizarre. Still, the house does seem to have a knack for timing and their loyalty is without equal.

House Holdings
None, the house is landless.

House Position
The current head of House Tudbury is Ser Tommen Tudbury, a man truly in the mold of Ser Morris and obese to boot. The house is still largely viewed as upjumped hedge knights and Ser Tommen keeps close ties with House Baratheon to combat this image. His son Ser Jason is well respected at Storm’s End, quicker of wit and sword than his father is. Ser Tommen’s sister, Leyne, is a schemer who shows none of the family’s restraint.

ALLIED HOUSES: Baratheon, Mertyns
ENEMY HOUSES: None

House Destiny
House Tudbury is very young and seeks to improve its standing and reputation through close association with and service to House Baratheon. Their tendency to be indecisive holds them back. Consenting to Leyne’s marriage was the only choice Ser Tommen ever made in haste and he regrets it dearly. Ser Tommen fears Lord Othor greatly.

House Tudbury acts only after considering all possibilities.

Benefits: The character’s Readying Action is modified as follows. First, the character does not lose the readied action if not performed. They instead can take the last action in the round. Furthermore, the character’s Initiative result does not change with a readied action.

Morrigen
House Morrigen watches Shipbreaker Bay and feeds pirates and smugglers to the crows.

House History
One of Orys Baratheon’s lieutenants, Gaim, was the founder of House Morrigen. While Orys besieged Storm’s End, Gaim took a force of men to take the northern coast of Cape Wrath to cut off any chance Storm’s End had of being re-supplied by sea. House Mayne and their keep of Breakwater controlled the approaches to Shipbreaker Bay. Orys awarded Breakwater to Gaim after he defeated Elagar Mayne in single combat and put the rest of House Mayne to the sword after storming the walls of the keep. Gaim Morrigen renamed the castle Crow’s Nest. The members of House Morrigen have been stalwart allies and friends of House Baratheon ever since. Unfortunately, this relationship has recently come under strain.

House Personality
The house heraldry is a crow in flight on a green field. The house motto is “The Crows Call Upon You”. Determined and grim would be the best way to describe House Morrigen. The house spends most of its time weathering storms and attacking smugglers. They take their duties seriously and are always prepared for conflict.

House Holdings
House Morrigen occupies the castle of Crow’s Nest at the northeast tip of Cape Wrath were Shipbreaker Bay meets the Narrow Sea. Crow’s Nest is a large castle situated on top of a high cliff overlooking the bay, giving it a wide and easy view of the approaches from all directions. With spyglasses on its tallest towers, it is nearly impossible to approach the Stormlands by sea and go unnoticed by House Morrigen. The castle is heavily fortified with massive walls though this is as much to protect it from harsh storms as from actual attack.

House Position
Lord Lester Morrigen has recently come to power after his fathers passing. A somber man who takes his duties and responsibilities seriously, Lester has a known dislike for his liege lord Robert who is a few years his junior. Many, including Robert, suggest this is because Robert once bedded a young lady Lester wished to court. Lester however maintains Robert conducts his personal life in a manner unbefitting a great lord. Consequently, Lester has become great friends with Stannis, who closely matches Lord Morrigen in temperament.

ALLIED HOUSES: Baratheon (though currently strained), Buckler
ENEMY HOUSES: None

House Destiny
If Lord Lester hopes to keep his house in good standing, he will need to resolve his feelings regarding his new liege lord. Robert will not apologize and he will not tolerate Lord Lester’s reproaches for long. The situation also strains his marriage, as Lady Mya is growing increasingly insulted with Lord Lester’s obsession over this lost love. Lord Morrigen thus far has only one child, his young son Guyard.

The next house is Fell. I have 2 feats listed. The second is the one I use in my game but it would obviously require establishing a lunar cycle to keep track of the bonuses. Assuming most people have not done that, I included the alternate feat.

Fell
An old house that always rises from defeat.

House History
House Fell has seen its fortunes wax and wane since the founding of the Targaryen dynasty. House Fell was quick to abandon the Stormking and one of the first of the Storm lord houses to swear fealty to Aegon the Conqueror and saw their prominence rise as a result. The reign of Daeron I brought disastrous changes to the Fells fortunes. The stronghold of House Fell, Felwood, was razed in a Dornish counterattack during the Conquest of Dorne. Much of House Fell’s wealth was looted and many of their members died in the attack with more falling in the other battles of Daeron’s conquest. At the conclusion of the campaign, the remaining members of House Fell found themselves without the means to rebuild Felwood. The new Lord Fell beseeched Lord Jeor Baratheon for funds but Jeor demanded House Fell’s Valyrian steel battleaxe as the price for his help. This offer was refused and House Fell became essentially landless with defense of the Redstone River delta and western end of Cape Wrath falling to House Swann, a house coincidentally high in Lord Jeor’s favor.

This situation persisted for nearly forty years until Ser Theo Fell distinguished himself repeatedly in the Blackfyre rebellion, fighting with the Targaryen loyalists. At the conclusion of the conflict, Daeron II supported Theo in his effort to rebuild Felwood and resume control of the surrounding territory. House Fell has been fiercely loyal to House Targaryen since and its members are often at court in King’s Landing.

House Personality
The house motto is “We Rise Again” The house heraldry is a crescent moon on a black sky above a tree line and green field. Members of House Fell usually have an indomitable will. Like the moon in their heraldry, House Fell realizes fortunes and failures wax and wane. What is defeat will become victory in time. Rumors persist that in ancient times the house drew strength from the moon and some members could take the form of animals. Some tales even tell how early members of the house were nigh invincible. However, such are the tales of smallfolk.

House Holdings
The seat of House Fell is Felwood, a moderate size castle just off the coast in a densely wooded area. Before Dorne joined the Seven Kingdoms, the area saw frequent conflicts between the Dornishmen and the Stormlords.

House Position
House Fell enjoys favor with the royal family and hence considers themselves above the other Stormlords. Lord Maynard is often at court in King’s Landing and pays little attention to politics in the Stormlands.

ALLIED HOUSES: Targaryen, Lonmouth, Connington
ENEMY HOUSES: Mertyns, Swann

House Destiny
The current Lord of Felwood is Maynard Fell, an accomplished warrior. His son Aesor wields the family’s Valyrian steel battleaxe. He has taken the name Silveraxe from the weapon’s unusual silvery sheen. He is good friends with Rhaegar Targaryen. House Fell has poor relations with its two closest neighbors, House Swann and House Mertyns, and its current activities revolve around seeking to diminish both houses.

Grandison
House Grandison of Grandview is an old and proud house long tasked with driving back Dornish incursions into the Stormlands and mounting assaults of their own.

House History
House Grandison was one of the original marcher houses established by the Stormking to combat the Dornishmen. House Grandison lost much of its purpose but none of its pride or sense of duty when Dorne was brought into the Seven Kingdoms nearly seventy years ago. The War of the Ninepenny Kings was particularly disastrous for the house as Lord Grandison lost both of his sons and two of his brothers in the conflict.

House Personality
The house heraldry is a sleeping black lion on a yellow field. The Grandison motto is “Rouse Me Not”. The Grandisons are particularly devout and Grandview has the second largest Sept in the Stormlands. The house places emphasis on traditional values such as honor and duty and frowns upon much of the politicking rampant in the Seven Kingdoms today.

House Holdings
Grandview is perched on a mountainside overlooking the delta of the Redstone River and Sea of Dorne coastline west of the river. It was an ideal location for spotting invading Dornish forces in the past. It serves the same purpose for spotting pirates and raiders now. The fact that all the worthy foes are gone and raiders are all that remain is yet another item in Edwyd Grandison’s litany against the current times.

House Position
The current Lord Grandison, Edwyd, bemoans the conduct of many of the young nobles and reserves particular distaste for the personal behavior of his current liege lord, Robert Baratheon. As far as Lord Grandison is concerned, the old times were better times. With Lord Grandison’s mind firmly in the past, the house is currently rather withdrawn and inactive in the political sphere.

ALLIED HOUSES: Swann, Selmy, Dondarrion
ENEMY HOUSES: Martell and the other Dornish houses.

House Destiny
Lord Edwyd has no surviving sons of his own, both having perished in the War of the Ninepenny Kings. He is hoping for one last good cause and good fight before abdicating to his chosen heir, his nephew Ecter. Lord Edwyd’s older brother Ser Harlan is a member of the Kingsguard, though his advanced age and poor health now make his position a purely honorary one.

-SER ELIS MASSEY

House Traits
FEATS: Blood of the Andals; Noble Spirit; Stubborn; Able Body; Rouse Me Not
SOCIAL STATUS: Rank 3 (Member of a Minor House)

Rouse Me Not
When roused, the fury of the sleeping lion of House Grandison is fearsome.

Prerequisite: Member of House Grandison

Benefit: On any round in which the character suffers damage from a melee attack, the character becomes enraged and gains a +2 to hit and damage against any foe that has injured them in that round. Once enraged the character can only attack foes that have injured them. Once such foes are defeated, the rage ends. The character can become enraged a number of times per day equal to 1 + Wisdom modifier (minimum 1)

Wylde
Once the elite, heavy cavalry of the Stormkings, House Wylde is still renowned for its warriors and their brute strength.

House History
In the time of the Stormkings, the men of House Wylde served the Stormking as elite cavalry. They always led the van and were the most feared of the Stormking’s forces as their charges were unstoppable. This reputation led to the house’s motto. Those times however are long past and House Wylde has developed a different sort of reputation in recent years.

Widely regarded as reprobates and scallywags, members of House Wylde have been accused of running cons on other nobles, fixing wagers at tourneys, smuggling, and even piracy. Unfortunately for their accusers, the one legitimate area of expertise that House Wylde is still renowned for is swordsmanship and they always demand trial by combat. The current lord of the house is Winston Wylde, a lighthearted rogue whose chief loves are drinking and fighting.

House Personality
The house heraldry is a blue-green maelstrom on a gold background. The house motto is “The Rage of The Storm”. Quick to anger and draw swords, the ferocity of House Wylde is hard to match. However, they are near equally quick to make friends when the fighting is done. Members of House Wylde rarely have any moral dilemmas over cheating and stealing, even from friends. Basically bullies, they try to dominate others whenever possible using an avalanche of curses or threats of violence, stopping only when confronted by someone stronger or smarter.

House Holdings
House Wylde has its seat at Rain House in the drenched and soaking lands of the Rainwood. Despite the frequent precipitation, the lands of House Wylde are some of the most densely populated areas in the Stormlands. This is due in large part to the fertility of the land and other abundant resources such as timber, game, and fish. The oak and ironwood of the area are particularly prized for shipbuilding and crafting shields and weapons. A shield or bow from one of the Rainwood’s famed artisans is often a highly sought and esteemed commodity amongst noble families throughout the Seven Kingdoms. Nearby Hawk’s Bay, shielded from the worst of the area’s storms, has calm and clear waters with abundant fish and oyster beds. House Wylde’s smallfolk are industrious, prosperous, and supportive of their lords. As long as the taxes are paid, House Wylde leaves the smallfolk to their own devices.

House Position
The men of House Wylde are fierce warriors and masters at the art of swordsmanship. Many noble houses have sent sons to train under the Wyldes or sought their services as master-at-arms, despite their roguish reputation. House Baratheon has had a Wylde serving as master-at-arms for the last two hundred years. The current master-at-arms at Storm’s End is Ser Gawen Wylde.
ALLIED HOUSES: Baratheon, Buckler, Mertyns (sometimes)
ENEMY HOUSES: Mertyns (sometimes), Grandison, Swann

House Destiny
House Wylde is a prominent house serving House Baratheon closely. Lord Wylde is a good friend to Lord Robert Baratheon and this should only elevate their standing. However, their attitudes and activities always keep them one step away from disgrace.

Prominent Members
LORD WINSTON WYLDE

-their son ARGENT

-SER GENOR, castellan at Rain House

-his household:
-SER MORS TUDBURY, captain of the guard
-MAESTER OLBYN
-BARTOL, master of the hunt

House Traits
FEATS: Giant’s Blood; Stubborn; Keen Mind; Silver Tongue; The Rage of the Storm
SOCIAL STATUS: Rank 3 (Member of a Minor House)

The Rage of The Storm
Members of House Wylde smash into their foes with the fury of a raging storm.

Prerequisite: Member of House Wylde

Benefit: The feat acts as an improved and enhanced Charge. A character with this feat has their charge modified as follows: there is no penalty to AC and the character inflicts +2 damage in addition to the usual +2 to attack. If making a desperate charge attack, the penalties are reduced by 2.

Toyne
An impoverished and disgraced family, House Toyne barely clings to existence.

House History
House Toyne, a once proud and honorable house best described by its motto “Fly High, Fly Far”, has fallen from those heights through a series of mishaps, misdeeds, poor choices, and a particularly cruel streak of bad luck. These troubles reached an apex during the reign of Aegon IV when Ser Terrence Toyne, a member of Aegon’s Kingsguard, fell in love with Aegon’s mistress. Upon the discovery of the romance, Ser Terrence was imprisoned and sentenced to be executed for his indiscretions. His brothers Andon and Lord Harmon Toyne made the singularly poor decision to free their brother.
Lord Toyne’s plan began to unravel from the start and when it became clear he would not succeed, he attempted to murder Aegon. To get to Aegon, Lord Toyne and his co-conspirators cut their way through Aemon the Dragonknight but Lord Toyne suffered such grievous wounds from the clash he could not see his vengeance fulfilled. After being subdued by Ser Michael Mertyns, Lord Toyne was promptly executed along with his brothers for treason. After the other conspirators were captured and executed, Aegon stripped the House of virtually all lands and incomes. He left the remnants of House Toyne with nothing more than a single tower, some land, an abhorrent reputation, and a certain gradual extinction as no noble in their right mind would seek to give House Toyne a hand up through marriage or otherwise. Some whispered Aegon showed mercy because he never loved his brother and had always secretly wished for his demise. Aegon, however, claimed a slow, lingering death for House Toyne would be a better punishment than a quick one through executions.
Currently, House Toyne has but two members, Lord Simon Toyne and his sister Melessa. The two are inseparable and each has been the strong support for the other to survive in what seems to be the twilight of their lineage.

House Personality
The house motto is “Fly High, Fly Far”. The house heraldry is a winged heart, all black, on a gold field. The house currently spends its efforts trying to erase the taint of past generations. Simon is noble and chivalrous and all a lord should be, however, the stigma of his name is such that no one much notices or cares. He has an underlying jealousy and resentment over having lived a good and just life but having nothing to show for it. Subsequently, the conduct of many noble houses disgusts Simon. Any conversation with him on the matter will reveal the depth of hatred he feels for them, particularly the Bucklers. He agrees known outlaws must be punished. However, Simon believes House Buckler’s methods have forced people to become brigands just to survive. As their purge of outlaws and bandits intensifies, Simon sees more and more refugees and beggars crossing his land. He offers every one of them what he can, no matter the cost to himself. His reputation among the smallfolk of the Kingswood grows daily.

House Holdings
House Toyne has a tower and some land left to them. With the number of refugees Simon has taken in, the population on his land is quite dense.

House Position
Simon has spent his life and what resources that remain to him in an attempt to rebuild House Toyne while staying true to the words “Fly High, Fly Far”. He has had few successes though he is a paragon of virtue and chivalry. When Ser Stoddard Kellington approached Lord Toyne eleven years ago with an offer to foster Lord Othor Mertyns eldest son, Simon accepted. He was distrustful of House Mertyns, not least because the houses had clashed in the past and Simon’s forbears had blamed House Mertyns for many of their misfortunes. The boon this opportunity presented could not be ignored though and Simon accepted the offer.

ALLIED HOUSES: Cafferen, Meadows
ENEMY HOUSES: Buckler, Simon considers most nobles unfit for rule.

House Destiny
The fostering of Lord Mertyns’ heir has recently ended and Simon hopes he will soon see the dividends. However, he is still a man without many options or hopes. Already in his mid-30’s, Simon despairs of finding a noble wife and having children. As it stands, Simon views his sister and his honor as the only two possessions of value left to him. Simon has sent ravens to both young Lord Robert Baratheon and King Aerys asking them to rein in House Buckler and put the situation in the Kingswood to rest. He has received no replies and he now despairs. Simon feels trapped on the edge of a precipice with nowhere to turn. His beliefs and honor demand he help the smallfolk but he increasingly sees his only option to do this as direct confrontation with House Buckler. This would of course lead to the label of outlaw being attached to him and his house. He fears this not for himself but for his sister and what would become of her. He will send more letters but his growing belief is the current power structure is hopelessly corrupt and useless.

Prominent Members
LORD SIMON TOYNE

House Traits
FEATS: Blood of the Andals; Noble Spirit; Stubborn; Keen Mind; Fly High, Fly Far
SOCIAL STATUS: Rank 0 (Member of a disgraced house)

Fly High, Fly Far
These words once had special meaning but hold no value anymore except for a few. Most view House Toyne with disdain and scorn.

Prerequisite: Member of House Toyne

Benefit: None, per se. The feat must be taken by members of House Toyne and has the same effect as the Stigma defect. Three BP are gained and may be spent on skills or a bonus feat.

Rogers
Once scouts for the Stormking, House Rogers is aware of all that transpires in the Kingswood.

House History
House Rogers is a reclusive house located in the southeastern end of the Kingswood in an area of particularly dense mixed forest originally known as High Home by the Children of the Forest, if the folk tales are believed. Chief amongst these tales is that this region was a powerful seat of the Children of the Forest before the coming of the First Men and the Andals. The First Men could not overcome the Children as the legends say the very forest rose up against them and the Children’s mystical allies were many. The First Men abandoned their attempts to take High Home and the Children remained. With the coming of the Andals, the Children were finally driven out but the mystical qualities of the forest were rumored to remain, including a large population of unicorns and the ability of the forest trails to shift and change in a maze-like fashion. The Rogers, chief amongst the Andals who conquered High Home chose to claim the area as their own, raising a keep named Amberly for both the quantities of amber in the area but also for the magnificent statues crafted by the Children entirely out of amber.

House Personality
House Rogers’ symbol is nine unicorns around a maze, silver on black. The nine unicorns represent the nine tribes of the Children of the Forest who built and inhabited High Home; such was their skill and ferocity in battle that House Rogers chose to immortalize their fallen enemies in a gesture of respect. The area around Amberly is indeed a maze, impossible to navigate for anyone unfamiliar with the area. This is no magic however. The Rogers and their scouts routinely scour the trails and create new ones to keep out unwanted visitors in the same fashion the Children did before them.

House Rogers generally stays out of the politics of the Stormlands and the Seven Kingdoms at large and therefore little is known about the members of the house and their dispositions. This has given rise to many wild suspicions and rumors such as that House Rogers has the blood of the Children in them, that they possess many of the secrets the Children left behind at High Home, and that they ride unicorns in battle. It is known that they are excellent scouts and trackers, surpassing even House Cafferen. The current Lord of Amberly is Ryan Rogers. The house motto is “A Path Few Can Follow”.

House Holdings
Amberly is a modest sized square keep in the densest area of the Kingswood. The walls are the original walls of the Children’s fortification, made of blocks of black basalt, virtually seamless and perfectly smooth. The four corner towers resemble giant, petrified trees. The gate is set about half of the way up the wall with a steep, collapsible wooden ramp leading to it.

House Position
House Rogers is a relatively minor house in terms of its influence. They come when House Baratheon calls its banners but otherwise prefer the solitude of their forest home.

ALLIED HOUSES: None
ENEMY HOUSES: None, though relations with House Buckler are tense

House Destiny
House Rogers shares a border with House Buckler and has its own problems with bandits, particularly Wenda the White Fawn and the Smiling Knight. Whether they will join forces with House Buckler or take a different approach remains to be seen.

Each character in the group gains a +4 bonus to all Hide and Move Silently checks, a +4 bonus to initiative, and +3 to attack and damage during the surprise round. Peasebury
Rich and numerous, the Peaseburys are loved by their smallfolk and respected by their neighbors.

House History
House Peasebury is an old and wealthy noble house. As the main suppliers of food throughout the Stormlands, House Peasebury has both wealth and influence. The lands surrounding their keep at Poddingfield are the richest and best cultivated in the Stormlands. Their smallfolk are skilled farmers and many Peaseburys are themselves experts on agriculture, working with their smallfolk to find new ways to increase crop yields. The current Lord of Poddingfield is Prester Peasebury, a gigantic and once gregarious man whose days have been darkened since the death of his daughter Liandra. Prester blames Liandra’s husband, Lord Othor Mertyns, for her death and swears foul sorcery was behind her demise.

House Personality
Their motto is “Our Family, Our Bounty”. The Peasebury heraldry is an open pea pod on a white field with a border of three rows of peas. House Peasebury is a close knit and loyal house emphasizing honesty, hard work, and commonsense. They also share a bond with their smallfolk that is unusual for a noble house. House Peasebury genuinely cares for their smallfolk and they make little fuss or distinction between noble and commoner in their lands as long as propriety is maintained.

House Holdings
Poddingfield is a sprawling walled manse overlooking miles of fertile farm fields crossed by irrigation ditches. Located in the Red Vale, House Peasebury’s lands are sheltered by mountains on all sides and the climate remains suitable for growing during all but the harshest winters. Rich volcanic soils with seasonal floods of the Redstone River bring bountiful harvests. Of old, these lands were a favorite target for dornish raiders traveling up the river. House Swann served as a defense in the Red March and the two houses have warm relations.

House Position
House Peasebury is an important house in the Stormlands. They, along with House Errol, produce most of the agricultural product in the Stormlands. Additionally, the numerous villages on House Peasebury’s land yield a large percentage of the men the Stormlands are able to field in times of war.

ALLIED HOUSES: Penrose, Swann, Errol
ENEMY HOUSES: Mertyns, Kellington

House Destiny
Lord Prester Peasebury is consumed with his hatred for Lord Othor Mertyns. He will not rest until he has avenged his sister. Lord Peasebury aims not for just Lord Othor’s demise but almost the entirety of House Mertyns. He holds out hope that his grandson has more of his mother than his father in him. Lord Prester awaits solid proof before taking his revenge.
