Special weather summary message for Newfoundland and Labrador issued
by Environment Canada at 5:35 AM NDT Thursday 15 October 2009.

A low pressure centre formed over the Northeastern United States
early Tuesday and began to rapidly intensify while tracking south of
Nova Scotia Tuesday night. The low passed just southeast of the
Avalon Peninsula on Wednesday afternoon while continuing to deepen,
and now lies well northeast of Newfoundland.

Rain associated with this system arrived over southeastern parts of
the island on Wednesday morning and pushed into central areas during
the afternoon. The rain eventually changed to snow over most areas
later in the day as temperatures fell toward the freezing mark.
In addition, very strong northeasterly winds developed ahead of the
low and shifted to strong northwesterlies in its wake.

The following is a list of total amounts of precipitation observed at
Select sites...

Bonavista .................. 66.9 mm
St. John's memorial univ.... 50.3 mm
St. John's int'l aprt ...... 46.4 mm (incl 5.2 cm of melted snow)
New Chelsea ................ 45.4 mm
St. Lawrence ............... 41.2 mm
Cape Race .................. 35.8 mm
Clarenville (shoal hr) ..... 30.0 mm
Argentia ................... 27.9 mm
Cape pine lighthouse ....... 26.4 mm
Terra Nova ntl park ........ 22.6 mm
Gander int'l arpt .......... 9.6 mm (incl 1.4 cm of melted snow)

In addition, there have been unconfirmed reports of snowfall in
excess of 15 centimetres over the high terrain along the Bonavista
Peninsula highway.

The following is a summary of the highest observed wind gusts...

I looked around the house later today to see if there was any wind damage. I had one broken tree branch and the rain cap to heater exhaust on the garage ripped off.
One of my neighbours house had a shingle blown off causing some water damage.

With weather like that , it could have been worse. Glad to hear you didn't have much damage Harrison :)
