October 2009 - Sydney Mines, NS

Temperatures in October were much cooler than average, especially daytime high's, which were 2.7° below the norm. There was also 2/3 as much precip than normal. It felt more like November!

Looks like the theme was cool and wet for October 2009. Here are my stats for Halifax and New Glasgow: http://novaweather.net/Uploads/Oct_2009_HFX_NGL.pdf .

Temperatures were 1.5C below normal in Halifax and 1.9C below in New Glasgow. Rainfall was 45% above normal in New Glasgow and about 60% above normal in Halifax.

October Summary for Duncans Cove, NS

Overall, a slightly cooler October than average for us here with the first frost really in the middle for the last 15 years. Definitely a wetter October by far.

Mean Temp: 9.0° ( 9.4˚ normal*)
Average Max Temp: 12.3° (13.2˚ normal*)
Average Min Temp: 5.7° (5.5˚ normal*)
Highest Max Temp: 18.3° (on 1st)
Lowest Min Temp: -0.2° (on 30th)

Total Rainfall: 204 mm (122.2 mm normal*)

Extreme daily rainfall: 29 mm (on 4th)
No snow.

Total days of rainfall: 17 days
Total days of fog:0 days
Total dry days (no rain, drizzle, or fog): 14 days

First frost: 11th

(*For normals, I’m using the data from Sandy Cove NRC Station, which is about 4 km SW of here, and is generally pretty close to my own records)

On a related note ... just got my power bill today for October's usage, and it's interesting because they happen to show the amount used in the same month a year ago.

My usage in Oct '09 was 40% higher than in Oct '08. :angry:
