While everyone was scrambling to get to the Hatching Sands, the Kitchen was in full blast of activity. The Head Cook and the other Cooks were busy moving about from one place to another. Their voices almost lost in the thunder of noises from all the activity around them. What was sure was that they were issuing orders for the kitchen aids to bring items, to send out items, to move items, to do this, or to do that. No one stood still for long and it was clear that they were putting out their best for the very fist hatching on Sebeka's sands since many Turns ago. Inside the Dining Hall more hands were putting out tables for the buffet, utensils, and festive wear. Such as table clothes that were white with trimmings of a solid border of black inside that border were gold diamonds, the colors of the Weyr. Placed behind the Weyrleaders' table was a draping of the actual crest of the Weyr weaved by Master Weavers themselves. The tassels hanging from either side were a blend of black and gold as well.

Glasses were set on the Weyrleaders' table along with more for those who may be enjoying the fine selection of wine they were able to save for such an occasion. Mugs and cups also appeared, jugs of various liquids, even skins that were put in ice to chill. It would be a while before most of the hot dishes were put out for anyone to enjoy. For now it was things that were easy to whip up. Rolls of various types, cold cuts, strew, fruits and preserves. A whole line of hand food, even boiled eggs, cut veggies, even a selection of cheeses! Yes the cooks were going all out for this celebration. What could not be seen but smelt were the roasts of herdbeast, wherry, poultry, and swine. Fish was also on the menu for the Hold was very generous in their bounty of local catch. It wouldn't be until the next Spring that they would see any harvest of crops.

Those who could not find a spot in the stands were here. Already well into the drinks and food. Harpers were preparing for the day's music on the stand set for them in the Hall. Some could hear a random melody sprung fro ma guitar, or a Harper stretching her lungs by singing random pieces of music lyrics. Even the weyrbrats were running about with toys of “dragons” some with bronzes or some even with blues and greens. As for the girls they of course held their precious stuffed golds “for every girl dreamt of gold” as it was said. Not as odd as one would think but there was also some Riders, generally those of old age who had transferred to the Weyr to give their knowledge on to the next. Yes this was the first hatching for the re-established Weyr, yes there was a gold egg on the stands that brought so much pride to the Riders. Still, they knew that it was for the young to witness, they would just enjoy form the sidelines.

A good day for a banquet. A very good day indeed.

Iella sighed contently as she eased Telly into the blanket lined basket, the little boy back asleep finally having been awoken by the call for candidate to take the sands. She eyed her own bed, only to have her thoughts shattered by the clearing of a throat.

"Dear, I'm here to help you." her mother reminded her softly as she stepped into the weyr holding a towel and Iella's gather clothing. "Go grab a bath and go join the fun. you need to relax now and then. And no buts, I'll send Silence for you if he needs you."

"Thank you mamma." iella said softly as she accepted the bundle.

You called her didn't you? I know she was helping in the kitchens. iella accused Al as she sank into the water.

Maybe I did, maybe i didn't. But she's right. you need some time to yourself. I'm gonna be blocking the entrance, so you can't sneak back up here. the brown replied. Now move your rump, they're starting the music.

J'don put on his best for the Hatching Banquet. His shirt was a fine, subtle bronze tone and his breeches were a prestine black. His boots were highly polished and all his best dragonic jewelry was on. He was most pleased with his torc, capped with dragons with open mouths around bright red stones that looked like fire. He even oiled Hadar a little extra, though the not-flitt as he had taken to calling him, was more interested in examining all his jewelry than getting oiled.

You are going to be over dressed, Mellith said, You are always over dressed.

"So?" J'don grinned at his dragon, "It's a celebration and I aim to celebrate."

Mellith just rolled his eyes in response and watched his rider go off to celebrate. He was pleased at the new life at the Weyr but he was no one to party. J'don, however, was.

As he made his way through the crowd, Hadar on his shoulder, he was already thinking about the fantastic food and wonderful wine he would get to enjoy tonight. And perhaps a little female company if he could manage it.

"howdy J'don." H'den said as he met the other rider along the way to the banquet. He was wearing a loose white shirt and a slightly dressier pair of pants then normal. Already he'd had the shoulders of the shirt enforced to accommodate perching flitts like glow who was contorted oddly as he tried to lick the base of his tail. Glow glanced at his sibling and went back to cleaning.

"How's life with your four-wing?" H'den asked, on hand coming up to torment Glow, who glowered it. one forewing darted forward and batted H'den's fingers away, a soft growl escaping the cobalt throat. "I'd swear he was some kind of feline with wings with the way he acts."

"Greetings, H'den," J'don clapped the other man on the arm, making sure not to disturb the not-flitt perched on the other rider's shoulder. "Four-wings huh? Not a bad name for 'em. I've been calling mine a not-flitt."

Hadar was instantly interested in H'den. The not-flitt leapt from J'don's shoulder to H'den's open one and started sniffing around, climbing up onto his head, sniffing at his hair and then climbing down to sniff at his brother.

"Hey, you little beast." He reached out and snatched the climbing monster off. "We gotta work on your manners."

"Maybe we should send a note to one of the Beast crafters and get an official name for them." H'den said as the amethyst explored his body. He didn't mind the little creature crawling all over him, though the claws in his ear where a bit much.

Glow's eyes flickered through the rainbow before settling to an orange tinged blue as he watched his brother. the little creature let out a startled cry as a much larger blue traditional flitt swept past H'den's head while being chased by a queen.

"Hugh or Silence didn't hit either of you did they?" Iella asked as she hurried up to the two bronze riders. "They're just so wound up from the hatching..."

"No, Ella, he didn't." H'den reassured her. "I must say, you look radiant. Motherhood suits you."

The healer blushed and swiped a lock of hair behind her ear. "Thank you. It's scarily like going through the weyrling stage again."

"Writing a beastcrafter would be a good idea. We'd have to sketch one of these little beasts for them, but perhaps they'd get a better name than what we've come up with."

While Hadar had settled amicably on J'don, the moment the other flitts whipped past, he was off and chasing them down. The bronzerider let out a sigh and raised his voice.

"Heads up! Flitts on the loose!"

A few people complained, a few laughed, but at least everyone was warned about the trio. He smiled pleasantly at Iella as she joined them.

"We're perfectly alright. Don't you worry about us."

"Easy enough. I've done up enough maps that I should be able to do a good likeness." H'den replied as Glow finished licking himself clean and then moved on to the hair around the bronze rider's ear. "Stop that. It tickles."

Iella nodded. "Glad to hear it. So.. who got the last few hatchings? Telly got fussy and i didn't get to see."

Hugh wheeled sharply, talons snatching up a napkin in passing. The queen on his tail backwing sharply as he released it right into her face. Silence flickered in and out of view for the briefest of seconds, avoiding becoming entangled in the cloth.
